Episode 32: One Outrageous Night

"Ah, Obaa-san, the old man gave me this present. Are you going to have some?" I said after taking out the prized wine from the paper bag and giving it to Masako-san.

"Hmm. My cup should go well with this..." She said.

She meant her special cup. The one she uses only for drinking special and expensive liquors.

"Hai, I'll get it..." Okin-san volunteered and left.

Dazai was sitting beside me, looking outside the garden. It's already midnight.

I wonder if he's tired?

"Dazai, are you going to drink? Or if you want, you can rest upstairs." I said while arranging the cups.

"If it's drinking, then can I also join?" He smiled and glanced to Masako-san.

Masako-san smoked her pipe and eyed Dazai for a moment. She keeps staring to his bandages, to be exact.

Well, who wouldn't?

"Help yourself, young man. But if you're tired, Yuko can show you to your room." Obaa-san then shot me a sharp eye.

What now?

"Uh...yeah. Are you tired?" I said, quickly averting my eyes from her.

Dazai chuckled and took the cup from my hands.

"I would like to have a drink." He said.

"Hai, haii!!! I've got Auntie's cup, let's drink!" Okin-san excitedly took a seat besides Masako-san.

I sighed tiredly and poured myself some tea while the rest of them are feasting with wine.

"Oooh! This is good." Dazai complimented.

"Isn't it? Yuko-chan's working at the winery across the town. They're selling famous wine products there!" Okin-san shared.

Oh, right. I almost forgot that the old man's factory is indeed a famous one...

Maybe I should send some to Chuuya.

"You work at a winery?" Dazai asked curiously.

"Yeah. I work as a part-timer."

"I see...so that's why you smelled so sweet."

Sweet? Do I smell sweet?

"Is that so?" I replied while trying to sniff myself. I'm pretty sure I showered before leaving though.

Returning my attention to the front, I stopped as soon as I saw Okin-san's malicious grin and Masako-san coughing out of nowhere.

I looked at them dead-panned. I somehow understood what they're probably thinking right now.

"You two...don't take it the wrong way." I said seriousy.

"What? We're not saying anything." Okin-san responded innocently.

Seriously.

Dazai chuckled to the situation and then poured himself another drink.

"You're not going to drink?" He asked.

"I'm fine with tea."

"Why? It's your birthday isn't it? We should celebrate your legal drinking age."

I sipped my tea and brought down the cup. Before I can even explain myself, Okin-san leaned towards the table and looked at Dazai carefully.

"Yuko-chan's weak with alcohol, Dazai-kun. Like...really, really weak! She gets easily drunk!" She whispered loudly.
