Surveillance

"We gotta go now!"
"Don't step on any glass, there's still some on the floor."

Every bulb in the living room and kitchen had blown leaving black, ashy glass all over the floor.
And now the only light in the house was the bluish tint of the morning sky.

Which meant they had to get to school.
Before everyone else did.
"Let's go, let's go, let's go."

She was holding the front door open, waving them out to the car.
With her hand's swooping motion, a chair from the kitchen table flew back and hit the ground.

She stared wide eyed, drawing her hand back and slowly putting it into her pocket.
Him charging at her from around the table.
"Y/n honey just take the pill!"

They got out to the car, Y/n running to the back seat and jumping in.
It was cold out today so she buttoned up her corduroy jacket, and they were off.

"So do we tell everyone? I mean, what do we say?"
"No, they don't really know about Squips."

She looked confused.
"What? I thought you said they all took one."

Jeremy nodded.
"Yah, yah they thought it was bad ecstasy. So we just have to tell Christine, and..."

He trailed off, looking down at his hands.
"And Rich."

~*~*~*~*~*~*

Not a wink of suspicion.
All day.

No kids screaming or seizing in the hallway, no collective hive mind of children trying to attack the trio.

Of course they didn't really have many classes together, it was a very big school with a lot of teachers.

That was, until they got to lunch.
And Jeremy spotted Christine.

"I'm gonna go let her know."
Michael and Y/n nodded, while he led the all-too-cheery girl away from the lunch tables.

She sighed, and her eyes loomed over to Rich.
He was sitting at a table with Jake Dillinger, staring directly at her.

When she made eye contact, he flinched and averted his eyes.
"I'm going to let Rich know."

"You sure?" Michael asked, resting a hand on her arm.
She glanced down at it, then up at him with a smile.

"Sure."
His eyes lingered on her for a moment longer.
"Can I kiss you?"

She smiled awkwardly.
"Oka-"
Michael abruptly leant down and kissed her, completely catching her off guard.

Y/n couldn't help but smirk and rest her arms on his shoulders.
When he pulled away from her, he wore an embarrassed smile.
"Sorry." He mumbled, keeping his hand on her back and not being the first to move away.

She shrugged, smirking and stumbling away from him.
"I don't mind... much."

He was laughing deeply, more of a giddy mumble than an actual laugh, which made Y/n smile.
Until she got back to the table, and plopped down beside Rich.

Which made all light chatter at the table stop.
"Hey." She sighed.

He was staring at her, pulling at the ends of his sleeves.
"Hey." For as meek as he looked, his deep voice did not match.

"Can we talk?"
He frowned. "What kind of talk?"
"A talk you're going to need to brace yourself for."

She reached down and tugged on his sleeve, her eyes pointing at the door to the hallway.
He gulped and let the girl lead him out of the cafeteria.
