Gale is reaped for the 74th Hunger Games instead of Peeta. Him and Katniss team up and make it to the last three, with Cato when Gale's survival skills kick in. He kills Cato and then turns on Katniss. He kills her. He then realises what he has done and turns the knife on himself.
There was no victor of the 74th Hunger Games.
