Before Augustus died, he came up with a plan. He got all the testing, got his parent to sign off the papers and signed the last one himself.
A short while after he died, Hazel received a notification from the hospital saying that they had cancer free lungs that could take the place of her sick ones. She took the sugary without asking many questions. She was just happy she had a chance at life.
It was only after she woke up from the anaesthetic that she found out. The lungs that had replaced hers were Augustus's. He gave her his healthy lungs as his last gift to her. He knew he wouldn't have the life he deserved with Hazel but at least he would always be with her.
