He came through the door to find Audrey sitting by their big oak table staring down at her hands. She looks so much like her, he thought.
"Dad" said Audrey, her voice quiet and hollow, "Why don't I have a Mom?"
Tobias did not have time for this, he couldn't deal with it.
"Don't, Audrey"
"But Dad, most people at school have a Mom and Dad. Where's Mom?"
He was holding back tears. She was too young to know. Maybe when she was older.
"She has gone away." he said trying to keep his voice steady.
"Will I ever see her again?" She asked her wide dark blue eyes that mirrored his staring up at him.
"Yes." he paused "You will."
"We both will someday."
