Divergent #3/ the Maze Runner #2

Before I begin this one I have to tell you that in The Kill Order (the Maze Runner prequel), there is someone called Mark. If you didn't know.

So eventually, well after the book, Mark gets the flare, but doesn't know it. He goes to Chicago to escape the most destroyed areas and becomes part of their faction system. He is put in Abnegation and soon becomes a leader. Now middle-aged, he has a wife, but the effects of the flare are starting to have effect. He has a son and whatever he does never pleases him. He beats his wife and son and cannot control his temper because of the flare. His wife runs away from him, faking her death, and leaves Mark with their son, Tobias. Of course, Mark takes it out on Tobias, whipping him with a belt at the slightest mistake.

You know who Mark is now, don't you?
He changed his name to Marcus.
