“(y/n) stop it’s me!”

“No you can’t be him! Dean is stuck in hell there’s no way he could be here!”

“(y/n) it’s me I promise! Just….just calm down alright?”

“Stop trying to trick me, I know you’re not Dean you failed the Holy water test! You’re clearly just some demon was that dumb enough to take Dean’s body as a vessel and I can promise you that you won’t be leaving with it.”

You continued to looking at the demon with tear filled eyes, shotgun still in hand. If Bobby were here he would already have this situation dealt with but he was gone helping Rufus with some hunt. You were alone when the demon got in and seeing it using Dean’s body made you not be able to think straight. You knew it wasn’t Dean, it couldn’t be. Dean was still stuck in Hell because of his deal to save Sam and after four months of searching you and Sam still hadn’t managed to find a way to bring Dean back. You knew it wasn’t him but you couldn’t help but feel a twinge of comfort seeing him standing there.

“(y/n) please…..just put the gun down for a second.”

You stared at intruder and after a moment lowered the shot gun, going against every instinct that was telling you not to. Seeing that you had listened, the demon gave you a small smile that was a perfect replica of Dean’s. That was the breaking point for you and you let out a sob as you turned your back to look out the kitchen window. You couldn’t look at the demon any longer, and the view of Bobby’s salvage yard was a far better alternative than the Dean imposter.

You heard the demon walk into the kitchen, but he kept his distance. He didn’t seem to want to hurt you and if killing had been his intent he would have done so by now seeing as he’d had about a million opportunities by this point. You continued to look out of the window until a thought occurred to you. You knew a way you could find out that this thing wasn’t really Dean. It was a test you and him had thought up long ago, in case a situation like this ever occurred.  A simple answer was all you needed to prove whether or not this was just some low life demon dumb enough to seek you out.

“Lovely weather we’re having……isn’t it?” you asked softly as you tried to keep your voice steady.

“Yeah…but I always carry an umbrella.”

Upon hearing the correct answer you let out a ragged gasp and felt tears welling up in your eyes. You turned slowly to face Dean, knowing this time that it was really him that you were looking at.

“Hey kid, it’s been a while huh?” he said giving you a sad smile. You then ran towards him and threw your arms around him and began crying into his chest. He simply hugged you back and rested his chin on top your head.

“I never thought that I’d see you again,” you said quietly after your crying had let up. You looked up at Dean, still not believing he was there. He looked exactly how he always had. No Hellhound scars, no broken bones or busted lips. There was no physical evidence of Hell at all on his face, he looked just like his normal self. Just your Dean.

“Yeah well, me either. But a place like Hell will motivate your inner escape artist like you wouldn’t believe,” he said smiling down at you, ”especially when you know someone like you is waiting for you topside.”

“We were going to get you out you know. Me and Sam have been scouring every kind of lore possible trying to find a way to bust you out. We would have gotten you out eventually….but now that you’re out don’t even think about making any more crossroads deals or I swear I will kill you myself.”

“Oh trust me, I am in no rush to get back to that place.”

“So….are you really a demon? Like a full-fledged stuck in demon traps demon?” you asked as you began running your hand through Dean’s hair.

“Sure am. That Holy water really does hurt as much it looks by the way.”

“I’m sorry about that,” you laughed, “but you know I had to. So, you’re a demon. That means you can do the whole eye thing right?”

“Mmhm.”

“…..can I see?”

Dean nodded at you and closed his eyes and when he opened them they were completely black. After only a few seconds he blinked again and they were back to green. He stared at you with pain in his eyes loosened his grip on you as he began to look at the floor.

“I understand if you want me to leave and never come back ya know. I know I’m monster now and you probably hate me and I just want you to know that I don’t blame you. Not at all.” He looked back up at you with a pained expression and started to back away but you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him into a kiss.

“Dean you’re not a monster. And there is no way that I could ever possibly hate you. You’re here and that’s all that matters to me. I love you and a pair of black eyes isn’t going to change that.”

“So you’re really okay with this? Like seriously fine with it?”

“Yes Dean I promise you I am totally fine with you being in this new state.”

“Good. Because I mean, I literally climbed my way out of Hell because I love you so much. And let me tell you it is not as easy as the movies make it look.”

“Oh I believe you,” you said smiling as Dean began to kiss you again.

“You know I don’t think Bobby and Sam are gonna be as okay with this as you are. I don’t think we should tell them about the whole demon aspect of things just yet.”

“Yeah that can wait,” you said nodding your head in agreement. “We can think of some other story to tell them in the meantime, then we can tell them after we find a way to get you back to normal. And yes Dean, we are going to find a way to get you back to normal. If your soul can take four months of Hell I’m sure there’s a way to get it back into shape.” You let go of Dean and were about to grab the Impala’s car keys until you remembered Sam had the car. So instead you grabbed your car keys and went back to grab Dean’s hand and began pulling him out the back door.

“And where exactly are going?” Dean asked as he took in the comforting sight of the salvage yard.

“Well first we’re going to call Sam and Bobby and tell that to get their asses home. And then I was thinking that since someone has been gone for a good chunk of time, they might enjoy a meal of cheeseburgers and pie?”

“ (y/n) these are the things that remind me why you were worth crawling out of hell for.”
