Liam turns his gaze to the dark-haired girl and raises an eyebrow at her. He opens his mouth to speak, but before he can utter a word she’s no longer looking at him. Liam frowns for a moment, but decides to forget about it; sometimes fans decide they don’t want to ruin their image of the lads, so it’s not all that uncommon for them to pretend that they’re not in the same room as one or more members of One Direction. It bothers Liam, though, that this girl quite obviously knew who he was, but won’t even give him a second glance.
Does that seem conceited of me? Liam asks himself. I mean, she’s the one that giggled when she saw me… Was she laughing at me? Is there something wrong with my face? Did I spill water down my shirt? Did she hear me singing along? Liam ponders the questions in his head for a few more minutes before his thoughts are once again interrupted by a giggle.
“What do you want?” Liam cries out, his hand covering his mouth as soon as the words slip out. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean… Uhm… Sorry.”
“Your hair,” the girl whispers, barely audible to Liam’s ears. “You’ve been running your fingers through it, so now it’s sticking up in all directions.”
Liam grimaces and combs his fingers through his hair, trying to fix the mess. Thank goodness my hair isn’t long enough to get super curly anymore, he thinks. “Thanks,” he mumbles aloud. “Sorry again.”
“It-it’s okay,” the girl stammers. “Sorry for laughing.”
Liam chuckles and forgives the strange girl. “What’s your name?” he asks, watching her from his peripherals. He notices that her eyes are an icy blue, sort of like a combination of Niall and Louis’. He also notices that he dark brown hair is short (for a girl) and curly, almost like Harry’s but with looser curls.
“Mikayla,” the girl finally replies, obviously feeling very shy.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mikayla,” Liam states, stretching his arm across the chair between them, offering the shy girl his hand. “I’m Liam.”
“I know,” she mumbles. She hesitantly reaches her arm out and takes his hand, shaking it slowly. “It’s nice to meet you, too.”
“Ah, so you do know me. In that case, would you like an autograph or anything?” Liam offers, smiling at the girl.
“Oh, you don’t have to-” Mikayla tries to say, but is cut off by Liam.
“It really isn’t a problem for me, you know,” he tells her, trying to reassure her.
“Well, I don’t really have anything for you to sign or anything,” she admits.
“Oh, well that’s unfortunate,” Liam sighs. He starts drumming his fingers against his leg, following along with the song that has just begun playing. A few minutes later, he feels someone tap on his shoulder.
“We’re here,” a familiar voice whispers.
“Are you doing alright?” another voice inquires.
Liam turns to look at the two girls beside him. “Thank you for coming. Did you have trouble finding the place?”
The girl, who first announced their presence, chuckles to herself. “We were just a little shocked that you asked us to come, honestly,” she says.
“And don’t worry; we looked up the address and then found it on the map on my phone,” the other girl adds. “Now are going to answer my first question?”
“I’m fine, honestly. I’m just nervous and needed company,” Liam concedes. “I didn’t want the other lads to know that I was here, plus I wanted to see you two before you head off to Scotland. Speaking of which, when do you leave?”
“Today is the 7th, right? That means we’re in London for 3 more days,” she says. “That’s correct, right? Rayne?” she questions, turning to her friend.
The older girl blinks, confused. “Sorry, what?”
“We leave on Friday to go to Scotland, yes?” Morgan asks.
“Oh, uh, yeah. We’re taking one of the early morning trains to Edinburgh,” Rayne replies. She tilts her head a bit, trying to see past Liam’s head to where Mikayla is sitting. “Mikayla? Why are you in London?”
“You know each other?” Liam asks, looking between his friend and the girl he had been talking to earlier.
“Yeah, we’ve known each other for a few years now,” Mikayla responds as Rayne opens her mouth.
“We were a part of the same youth group for a couple of years,” Rayne explains a bit. “Morgan knows her too, actually.”
Liam shakes his head, trying to grasp onto the fact that the three girls knew each other already. Before he has the chance to say anything else on the matter, a nurse with a clipboard enters through the door that leads to the medical examination rooms. She looks down at her paper then calls out the name of the next patient: “Liam Payne. Dr. Thompson is ready to see you.”
