~What Lies Beneath~

Sam was still feeling distorted by the emotions that were swerving inside him. He felt happy that his brother was alive but he felt betrayed that his uncle lied to him and even ordered his assassination. Sam was filled with rage but also confused as to why he would want his own nephew dead. That's if he knew, but he had to know right?

Sam was a mess and he knew that the one person who could help him understand was the one person who had been missing for the past three days. He had to talk to Connor no matter the cost but he couldn't skip school. Or could he? He didn't want to attract any attention to himself, or at least that's what he kept telling himself was true. Deep down Sam was actually enjoying the school life and there was something about that Rose girl that made him feel a certain type of tingly inside, but he wouldn't let himself give in to whatever he was feeling. He couldn't let himself get so sucked in by the emotions because he feared that he would lose himself. Sam was tired of playing the waiting game so he decided to look for Connor after school and make him talk.

The school day was almost over when a special someone caught Sam's eye. Connor. After three days this is when he decided to show up. He was making Sam worried even without knowing it and it angered Sam that he had such control over him. Sam was worried that he might act differently around his newly founded brother so he put on a calm facade and walked over to Connor who was talking to someone, most likely a friend of his. It was still really weird for Sam to have a brother again but it was the good kind of weird. The closer he got the more the person's features came into view and Sam recognized him as the boy from the cafeteria.

"Mick, long time. Where have you been?" Connor said so casually as though Sam was the one who disappeared for three days.

"I could ask you the same question." Sam's voice came out more concerned than he should be, even though he shouldn't.

"Oh, I was sick so I couldn't come to school." He could tell that Connor was lying but he didn't push it knowing that if he did, Connor might become suspicious as to why he was asking so many questions.

"And you are?" Sam was now looking at the boy who was talking to Connor just prior.

"Jake. Don't you remember me from the cafeteria?" Jake. So that's what his name was.

"No." Sam did remember him but he just said no because it felt easier to say and he didn't like unnecessary complications.

Jake's face dropped but he quickly put on a smile to mask his clear disappointment.

"Mick, Mick!" Someone yelled from behind him. He turned around so quickly that he almost bumped into the person to whom the voice belonged. "Wow, that was close. We have to stop meeting like this." It was Rose and she had on the same smile that made Sam feel fuzzy inside.

"Yes. We really do." Sam's lips were starting to tug upwards into a smile and no matter how hard he tried to stop himself he couldn't fight it.

"I just wanted to apologise for the other day. So, to make it up to you I was wondering if you wanted to get some dinner Friday night." Dinner. With her. Friday night. Sam was starting to feel nervous, but why? Could it be possible that the cage of emotions that Connor had unlocked also contained an emotion that caused Sam to feel a certain feeling that he had locked away when his parents died?

"Yes, Friday night sounds great." He didn't know why he agreed but he did. Sam started to embrace the feeling inside but a larger part of him still refrained from feeling whatever it is he was feeling, and to stay on the safe side, he decided to listen to the part of him that was still hesitant to feel anything.

They exchanged their numbers and just before Ross left, she flashed her smile again which made the fuzzy feeling inside Sam ignite. Sam was sure that if Rose kept flashing her smile his inside would explode due to all the fuzziness he was feeling, but it didn't sound too bad.

When Sam turned around, he was met with a grinning Connor and Jake.

"What?" Sam asked.

"It seems like Mick has a date Friday night." Jake said in a kind of teasing voice.

"No, it's just dinner because she wants to make up for bumping into me. Nothing else." Even he didn't believe what he was saying because Rose gave him all the indicators that it was a date, but he had to believe it for the sake of his mission.

He had to finish his mission but before that happened, he had to talk to Connor and make sure that he wasn't hiding anything from him.

The day progressed as usual but Sam had a moody cloud hovering over him the whole day and some teachers even asked him about it because according to them, 'He was more, moodier', as if that was even possible. Sam was counting the seconds until the end of school and when the bell rang, he rushed out of class only to come face-to-face with the person who made him believe he was dead. His dead brother. Connor.
