Chapter 30 - Awkward Item [REWRITTEN]

I walked with Tommy to the candy section.

"Do you want to pick a bag of candy, Tommy?"

He looks at the variety of candies and picks a bag of sour gummy worms.

"These look good. Can I have these?"

I looked at the bag and said,

"These are sour. Do you like sour candy?"

He looks at the bag again and says,

"I've drank sour soda before. Will this be any different?"

I nod my head and say,

"Sort of. It's just way more sour"

He nods his head and says,

"Won't hurt to try them"

I laugh and grab a Hershey chocolate bar for Renée.

I go up to the front desk with Tommy and the same lady as before had put her phone down and was talking with a colleague.

"Excuse me, ma'am?"

I ask her as she looked over at me and stopped talking.

"What's wrong ma'am?"

I look at the items and say,

"Where can I check out?"

She points at the people in the lines and say,

"Get in one of those lines and wait for an employee to scan your stuff"

I nod and thank her. She goes back to her conversation and we left to the lines.

Tommy and I get into the line, and we hear,

"Gabby! I found everyone!"

I look over and Bubby is running with the rest of the science team behind him. He stops in front of me and puts his hands on his knees.

Everyone catches up and it looks like they found some stuff they wanted to buy.

Everyone picked out some gadgets, along with other smaller things.

"Alright, we're about to check out, so hand me your items"

Everyone hands off their items and Tommy and I end up holding them all.

"Thanks guys!"

We wait until everyone is finished in the line and we're up next.

"Hello, ma'am! How are you this afternoon?"

I say to the employee as I set the items down on the conveyor belt.

"I'm doing great! How are you?"

I smile.

"Good!"

Everyone sits in silence as the employee scans the items and puts them in the bag.

The employee grabs an item, looks at it, and scans it.

"Oh! I see you have a busy day ahead of you, hmm?"

She smiles and raises an eyebrow as she holds up a box of condoms.

I blush and say,

"What?! Those aren't mine!"

I glance at Benrey and he is blushing like crazy, avoiding eye contact.

"Just put them in the bag. . ."

I say as everyone is laughing except Benrey and I.

Once she is finished putting the items away, I grab the bags and have everyone hold theirs.

We leave the Target and put the bags in the trunk of the car. Everyone gets in, and buckles their seat belts.

I start up the car and shout,

"Why in the name of Jesus did you get condoms, Benrey?!"

Yet again, everyone is laughing.

"I- uhhh. . . you never know when they could become useful"

Everyone continues laughing as I blush, blushing all the way home.
