There was fear in Zach's eyes, probably annoyance in my own. He was trying to protect my feelings, I knew that, but every fiber in my body needed answers.  I grabbed the phone from his arms, too quick witted for him to form a complete reaction, before reading the words on the screen.

The articles were manic, completely insensitive. The writers talks as if I was a slave to the public's eye, another person they fiend off of to keep feeding lies to the media. Sadly, most people believed them. The comments were just as insincere as the articles alone, bolstering with plenty of hateful comments.

I kept scrolling, becoming addicted to what others had to say about me. Zach tried getting his phone back many times, but it was too easy to stop him when I was ambitious enough to keep reading the horrid comments. Although they were cruel and harsh, I couldn't put the phone away. I kept reading, allowing myself to live through another misery over and over again.

username01: Could we be honest here? Sienna is probably a desperate girl still using daddy's plastic trying to get Daniel back after she's seen now successful he's become. She's ridiculous.

I gave the phone back to Zach. There was too much hurtful criticism that I needed in a lifetime, and I was finally thankful I stopped reading. He kept staring at me, almost like I would shatter if he looked away. Honestly, I thought I would break too.

"You okay?"

"H–how did they even find out this quickly? I mean– I just–it's only eight in the morning," I was beyond speechless.

"People at the banquet must have overheard and sent in to the media sources. Anyone will do anything for a few minutes in the spot light."

Zach was trying to be comforting, but his words were doing nothing of the sort. It doesn't matter that others thought about the relationship, but it did. Both of our careers are based on public entertainment, and one foul article could ruin us forever. It gave too much power to the media, us remaining powerless in our own personal decisions.

It was an unspoken truth that I would do better for my relationship with Daniel, fight harder to be with him. We've gone through countless situations like this one, and I promised myself that I would be the better version of myself in my reactions, even if my heart ached from each comment. My best self already existed in the ethers, waiting to be downloaded for moments like these.
