"Open up Raven

"Open up Raven. I know you're in there!" More knocks reverberated at the door again.

Raven quickly got up, adjusted her clothes, and used her hands to hastily, albeit clumsily wipe her face, to destroy any evidence to even suggest she'd been crying just seconds ago.

"Mom I'm sorry. I've got to go. My boss is at the door. I'll call you later" Raven whispered into the phone, and only when she received an affirmation from the phone, did she cut the call.

Breathing deeply — in an out, for a few seconds, she finally decided she was composed enough, and opened the door

Without preamble, or curtsey, her director barged in, and started speaking

"Mrs Edens, would you care to explain to me, why I've been calling your office line for the past thirty minutes, and you've not not been answering? Or why you aren't even in the office in the first place?" he dished off rudely

"Sir, I had to answer a personal call" Raven gulped, struggling not to show any emotions on her face. She still felt like crying.

"A personal call you couldn't answer in your goddamn office? It's why you have a goddamn office Miss Edens. You're the manager of Stanford Bank in the whole of Philadelphia. Use your fucking office to answer your fucking calls! No one else will use it for you. You are meant to be in your office at all times, except you're either going to the bathroom, or you're going for a business meeting" he all but yelled at her

"Why exactly are you here, Mr. Tomascow? Like you rightly said, I am the manager of Stanford Bank in Philadelphia. Not you. Although you are head of all Stanford Banks in this district, including Philadelphia, but it still isn't your place to tell me how to do my job. So I'd advise you watch that tone of yours" Raven warned, getting back into composure, her mother's plight temporarily tucked to the back of her mind, so she could first deal with the arrogant bastard in front of her.

"Well I wouldn't need to tell you how to do your job, if you were doing your fucking job right, now, will I?" he mocked, going over to Charlotte's chair to sit down, while Raven stood facing him

"Sir, is there a particular reason why you're in Philadelphia today? We seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot. I don't want to argue. The sooner you tell me why you're here, the sooner we can both leave each other's company, and go back to our respective jobs."

The man snickers, in the most un-gentlemanly way, letting out a string of curses under his breath. He's never been afraid to show his utter dislike and contempt for Raven, ever since he'd been made director of her district, just a few months ago

"I need a fucking drink. Serve me a drink, Miss Edens"

"That's not my job, Mr Tomascow. If you want a drink, when we're done here, you can always go out to the nearest brothel you see and get yourself one" Raven replied smoothly, and diplomatically. She'd sworn to herself that Mr Tomascow wasn't going to get her angry, or get on her nerves today, no matter what he did. She wasn't going to give him the upper hand, by letting him faze her, or unseat her out of her game

"Then give me water or anything else, madam. Christ! Can't someone give some fucking orders around here, and they get followed, without questions or reservations? I'm your boss, Raven. You're to do what we I say. Or I can make life here, very difficult for you" he threatened, almost going red

Raven literally had to pinch herself,  and count to ten in her mind, to prevent herself from instantly lashing back at him, the way she so badly wanted to.

"This is Charlotte's office, not mine. I don't have the right, nor jurisdiction to give you anything from this office, even if it's just water"

"Well she's your friend ain't she? Why isn't she here then? I could fire her right this very minute, for not being on seat, during work hours. And don't try to lie to me that she's within the building, cause I know she ain't. I'm sure your precious Charlotte wouldn't mind that you ransacked her office, just to get me a cup of water to drink, in order to help her keep her job" he kept on threatening

Raven gauged his voice and actions, and realized with a bang that he did in fact mean what he was saying. And he would readily fire Charlotte, just to spite her, Raven.

So without arguing any further, Raven walked over to Charlotte's fridge and got out the very expensive scotch she already knew would be inside. What could she say? She knew her best friend very well. Charlotte always kept an alcoholic drink, at the office, for reasons only Charlotte knew. Peharps they were for impossible situations like this.

Raven handed it over to Mr Tomascow, as soon as she'd opened it. With no thank you, or word of appreciation, he dragged the drink from her hands, and gulped down a healthy quantity, almost waiting till he'd finished the whole bottle, before resuming the conversation. Raven kept herself still, standing and watching him. If looks could kill, the daggers her eyes were throwing at him, would make his dead mother rise up and weep at her son's new grave.

"That's better. I feel much better for the drink, thank you. I know you were waiting to hear me say that" he belched, Raven simply rolled her eyes, mentally urging him to continue, and finish his conversation, so he could leave.
