Matt popped by the reception desk and saw me staring at the envelope.

"She's been staring at it for five minutes even though she's supposed to be calling someone to pick her up next week," Ian informed him.

"Well it's either L.A or Omaha. But...Matt? Come here. I want you to read the letter. If it's bad, throw it out," I commanded.

Matt shrugged and walked over, taking the letter out of my hands. He had no emotion as he read. His lips barely moved and I couldn't make out the words.

"Hmm," he smiled & handed me the letter. "Here."

. . .

Dear Imogen,

I'm writing this letter the day after we last spoke. When you called, you woke me up, and it's been harder to sleep since then. I went over to your house but Jack filled me in on everything. How could you do such a thing? I know it was more to do with what you harbored inside than me, but I can't help but feel a little guilty. I say next time we argue or fight, we should work a little harder to fix it right then and there.

I say next time because I want there to BE a next time. I wanted to say it to your face but maybe a letter is better. Now you have something you can read over and over again so you know it's real. I love you, Imogen. We all do some pretty fucked up things in our lives but it's the ones who stick around through it all, they're the ones that matter.

I want you in my life. I need you. And I'll be here waiting for you whenever you come back. And I hope you come back soon. I plan on making your lips numb with mine. I'm gonna kiss your scars too. It's been hell without you here honestly. I want to start over with you. And I hope you'll start over with me. I'm sorry for everything. Again, I love you. I fucking love you!! It feels good to write that, knowing you'll read it. Write back.

                                                                Forever yours,
                                                                                       Jack

There were tears in my eyes and Matt hugged me.

"So," he said. "What's it gonna be?"

I thought about it, then I picked up and dialed.

ring... ring... ring...

ME: (sighs) Hey mom. I'm getting released next week and...I need you to please send the rest of my things to Omaha.
