The Little Moments That Bring Us Joy -Legolas #2

Start from the beginning

But there was another place he had to go to and it was another refuge his parents did not know of. It was a place only for him and the one who holds his heart.

To his surprise, someone was there.

And he nearly forgot to breathe when he realized who it was.

"(Y/N)," Legolas gasped and his heart leaped in joy when you turned to face him.

Your shock quickly turned into happiness and you ran to him. He opened his arms and when he caught you, he lifted you up and spun you around before placing a kiss on your lips. The two of you stayed like that for some time, just in each other's arms and not bothering to say a word, because you both know how much you missed each other.

A few moments later, you looked up at him and smiled. "You are home," you said.

He nodded. "I am," Legolas said.

"I had been waiting for you. They told me that you were expected to arrive on the morrow yet I knew in my heart you'd be earlier. But I was waiting and listening for you to take the path," you told him as you both made your way back to the caves. "Why are you here?"

Legolas chuckled. He lifted your intertwined hands and placed a kiss on your knuckles before saying, "I missed home far too much that I thought of reminiscing the good old days by visiting places I love most."

Your time alone with him was cut short when you heard shouting. The two of you shared a laugh when you saw the guards light up in joy at the sight of their Prince. Those who had already passed on the message that Legolas had arrived ran towards you two and engulfed Legolas in a tight embrace. Soon he was surrounded and you stepped aside, letting the people hug him and talk to him.

But when the King emerged from the doors, everyone took a step back and bowed. All eyes were on the King and they all watched with smiles on their face as Thranduil rushed to his son. It was a gesture that not everyone was very fond of but at that moment Thranduil could only express his worry through gathering Legolas in his arms.

"You foolish child," Thranduil whispered. "I sent you to tell them the prisoner escaped, not to go and help a halfling throw that cursed ring."

"I had to go, Ada."

"Of course you did. Any chance of mischief you always took."

Legolas rolled his eyes. "I had to go for our people and for the Free Peoples of Middle Earth."

"Remind me how you are my son again?"

Their little conversation was interrupted when they heard giggling. Legolas and Thranduil shared fond looks when they saw you smiling at them, shaking your head at their silly retorts. Thranduil then walked up to you and offered you his arm.

"Ada, I am truly sorry for causing you worry," Legolas said.

Thranduil sighed as he watched his son offer his arm for you to take as well. "I will fully forgive you if the two of you get married. I swear I will start looking older if I have to continue watching Legolas look so disappointed at watching (Y/N) go home even though he will see her again in the morning."

You blushed at the King's words and the fond laughter the people shared when they heard. Legolas was also blushing but he was never going to be embarrassed in showing his love for you.

The rest of the day was spent celebrating the victory and remembering those they have lost. It was fun indeed but Legolas had to admit that he was quite tired. So he pulled you with him and you slipped away from the festivities to retire for the evening.

"I should be going home," you said but Legolas pleaded that you stay with him as he was unable to spend time with you. You sighed and laid down beside him.

You watched in amusement as Legolas happily rolled around his bed. He curled his toes and stretched his arms and even hugged his pillows and buried himself under the covers.

Legolas was happy to see his loved ones and his home again, but right now nothing could beat the happiness he felt when he realized how comfortable he was in spending the night in familiar surroundings and in his own bed.

"Months of spending nights in forests and mountains and cold castles and unfamiliar surroundings," Legolas said. "Some people deemed Mirkwood dangerous before but it is home and it will always be more comfortable."

You hummed in agreement. "And yet you are going on another adventure," you said.

"How did you know?"

"Because you are you, Legolas. Now that you've seen more of the world, I know you are more curious than ever. And there is still work to be done. I know you will want to help the others."

He kissed your temple and sighed. "Will you travel with me then? We will have company though, a friend of mine named Gimli."

"I have no problems travelling with a dwarf but I suspect you will only bring me along so that I could carry your mattress and pillows for you."

"That doesn't seem like a bad idea!"

You hit Legolas' arm playfully and he laughed before wrapping his arms around you.

This little moment did not come often but whenever it did, it made you happy and it made you look forward for the next ones. True to your suspicions, Legolas had barely spent a month or two in Mirkwood before he was on the move again. And much to Thranduil's disappointment, the two of you decided to hold off the wedding and continued on with more adventures. But despite being happy while Legolas traveled, he yearned to build a home with you and have somewhere to come back to. He loved to recall the memory of being back in his bed and you in his arms and that made him look forward to the future.

It made the two of you look forward to something when you finally cross the sea.

And you were sure it will make life in the Undying Lands worth living.
