I posted this entry first in Spanish earlier today. The awesome maryltabor asked me to translate it and her wishes are my command! She's wonderful. My flamboyant friend and fairy from the woods LynnS13 began this discussion on her book titled Oráculos de Wattpad (Wattpad's Oracles) for the benefit of those Spanish speakers and users that can't read in English but asked her about this theme. That gave me an idea and I created the entry first in Spanish and now in English. I might add that I'm not an expert on the subject and if you want to read more about it you can go to MichaelLimjoco's page. He knows more than me about this. (But I can be smart too sometimes)

I've always been good in math, well not as good as our friend Karimsuliman (he invented algebra even though he claims he's 25!). I've always loved algebra and to solve those tricky exercises mixed up with letters and numbers, yet I was not a fanatic. Don't think wrong I'm more of the sexy professor type rather than the crazy scientist with the weird hairdo.

So I'll borrow LynnS13's chalkboard where she left her legion of dwarfs solving this week's algebraic problems. Because algorithm is all about mathematics, equations and lots of problems to solve. Pure math that is perfect and never fails (hope is still left on the box my friends) So everybody agrees that this so called algorithm or Wattpadian's Good Will Algebra is nothing more than mathematical formulas filled with lots of unknown and changing variables -well, unknown for us at least- that we all want to understand and master to be useful for us.

And these 'variables' will always be the same what changes is the sequence of the mathematical equation (remember that addition is commutative in the algebraic law and here too) according to the updates and uplifts that this page has suffered both esthetically and internally speaking. Data is validated and measured, also displayed in a different ways and this responds to the Team's Will and functions and there's nothing we can do about it. No matter how much we rant about this it's known as evolution. And you know the law guys. So let's cross our fingers and trust.

Now, speaking about variables, no matter how exact mathematics are, there are always shortcuts to the long process and we need to know those tricks in order to succeed in this binomial world. We can make those numbers work in our favor. The variables are: updates frequency and rate, creation of new and varied entries, stories added to reading lists, constant comments and votes in a story, general or sporadic votes and comments, demography, participation in forums, collaborations, messages left on the author's wall, newsfeed, other social communities and messages, as well as when others mention your name in the places mentioned above. These, to my best understanding, are the variables and I think in that order accurately. These are the elements in the holy Wattpadian's equation.

So many people have talked about this in different ways. It's been discussed almost in a daily basis in this site. I'm only going to point out the most important aspects.

When we talk about the frequency in which we update a story I will venture to suggest that it's preferable to do it in a weekly rate or every other week constantly. We must choose a day and stick with it. Doing it so we guarantee that the readers jump into the story in a higher volume in the very same day. This will also increase the numbers of votes and comments and the interaction between the author and readers and amongst the readers as well. Simple, right?

While you update your stories regularly, create new entries in different categories and genres. The new books quickly are positioned with favorable numbers above older ones. It's part or Wattpad's generosity and this algorithm good will with the new writers. Don't be shy. Trying out new styles. This will make possible you could be seen in more than one of the recommended lists, thus translated in more readers, followers, votes and comments. Also it will develop and enhance your skills as a writer. If you know more than one language, go for it (take me as an example)! This will show how prolific and versatile you are as a writer!

The new system of graphs and statistics that you can access through the renovated section of "my works" it's simply awesome! You can see clearly who reads your stories and where. It divides your audience in genre, age and country. It will also show which chapters are the most or less read and the rate of votes and comments per chapter per day. That's wonderful! You can concentrate then in working harder on those chapters that are less read and find out what aspects of your story need to be changed or edited. Check it out! You will learn a lot with it!

Share your stories in other forums and social communities outside of Wattpad. It's trendy now to share your stories by the external links attached in your own profile page. Why? Simple. It adds more users to WP and more followers and readers to your stories. This result in more votes and comments (remember the variables).

Create friendly and social connection with the rest of the writers and users in this place. The most loved is not the one with most reads or followers. The most loved is the one that is most commented in or outside the stories in a positive way. To gain other's affection comment in others stories, vote, participate actively in forums or create your own always respecting Wattpad's code of conduct and rules. The more your name pops out in the newsfeed or any other place outside your page, the better it is. There's 'The Most Popular' page. It's good to be there. It makes others read your stories for sure.

But the key us to be generous and to become a good Wattpadian's citizen. Is not to make others just go to your page and stories, is to make them stay there by their own will and pleasure. Mutual promotion is always good. Everything is cyclical. The good you do here will come back in the form of votes and comments of gratitude and honesty.

With this I conclude this entry about Wattpadian's algorithm. Now the sexy professor unbuttons her blouse a little to gain more followers, readers, votes and comments. (Winks and smiles mischievously) I hope these advices are useful for you guys. The important thing here is not to know a lot about WP, is to share what we know to the benefit of the community.
