Chapter 11: Not Again

~~~the next day~~~

You were on the wall with other cadets cleaning cannons, restocking, and moving supplies. You and Eren were on one of the cannons he started talking.

"You and Reiner have gotten pretty close this past year..." he says more of a statement than a question.

"I guess we have..." you hadn't told anyone that you two were dating, you didn't want them to make a bigger deal out of it than it was. You both saw the way they treated Hannah and Franz. It wasn't that hard to figure out though, you didn't hide your affection from each other. Neither of you were overly touchy in public and Eren was a little slow sometimes, but you weren't surprised it took him this long to ask about it.

"Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy and all, but don't let him distract you from our goal, (y/n)" He says with that determined look in his eye that he always had when he spoke about killing titans.

"Eren, you don't have to worry about that. I don't even think we'll be going into the same regiment. He made the top 10, he probably wants to go into the Military Police like Jean does."

"Maybe, but you and I are going to be part of the Scouts, same as Mikasa, and we were all In the top 10 too," he had a point. Even if Reiner did decide to join the Scout Regiment, that just meant he was actually passionate about taking out the titans, maybe not as much as you and Eren, but still. You were going to respond when Eren started talking again. "What? The hell you mean you're joining the Scouts? What happened to the MP? That was your whole thing!"

"Don't worry about it! A guy's allowed to change his mind, okay?" He was talking to Connie. Now that was a surprise. Connie was all about being in the Military Police, safe behind Wall Sina. It was shocking that he would even consider changing his mind, let alone the fact that he actually did. It looked like Eren's little speech last night really had an effect on him. Not only Connie, Thomas too. You had a small smile on your face, glad that more people from your class would be joining you in the Scouts. Everything was turning out great, that's when you heard Sasha's voice.

"Can you guys keep a secret? 'Cause I totally just helped myself to the Officer's Pantry." Everyone's jaws drop and eyes widen. 'Is she crazy?' you thought to yourself. 'What am I thinking, of course she is.' You sat there, leaning up against the cannon as the exchange happened. Your surprised expression softening into a content smirk listening to the banter. Before you knew it, everyone was reserving a slice for themselves. 

"Hey! Let me have a slice too!" You called out, joining along in the fun. 

"Come on! Don't just stand there. If they see us slacking off, we're in for it." Samuel says and you all start heading back to your cleaning stations. You bring your legs closer and use the cannon to stand up then dust yourself off. When you look back up, you see Eren with a proud look on his face that brings a smile to your own. You look off in the same direction and admire how far all of you have come in the past five years. You were all finally ready to bring the fight to the titans. You had a smile on your face, feeling at peace for once when you felt an odd breeze and a terrible pit in your stomach formed as your smile dropped. There was a loud clap almost like thunder and a flash of lightning. A large shadow was now cast over you and the rest of that section of the wall. A bone-chilling silence that felt like it lasted forever occurred when you turned your head to be met face-to-face with the colossal titan. 

Before you fully had time to process and react to what was happening in front of you, you were all blown off of the wall by a huge gust of hot air. A cry of pain escaped your lips as it hit you and you blocked your face. While in the air you shot the grapples of your gear into the side of the wall to catch yourself. Once your feet were planted solidly on the wall you looked around you to assess where everyone else was That was when you caught a glimpse of Samuel falling, unconscious. You were about to go into action to save him when Sasha beat you to it, shooting a grapple into his leg. 

"Oh God no. Not again," you hear below you from Thomas. You look down along with everyone else and see the gaping hole in the wall. 

"They're gonna get in. They're gonna get in. They're gonna get in!" Connie yells. You turn to look to your right where Eren was hanging from his ODM gear the same way you were. He had a look that mirrored yours, one of ferocity and determination. 

"I will. This ends now," he says to himself. You were thinking the exact same thing. It was moments like these when you and Eren shared similar mindsets. "This is it, people! Do or die!" He starts yelling out orders and flying to the top of the wall. You follow suit up the opposite way so that you would be on the other side of the titan. He looks at the two of you unfazed. 

"You, it's been a while," Eren speaks through his teeth with murderous intent. Not that you could blame him, if looks could kill, yours would have the colossal titan dead and buried by now. This was your moment. The moment to get revenge.
