Danielle's PoV

I twist my hand through my duvet reaching over to my bedside lamp switching it on, letting the light illuminate my small warm bedroom. Blinking my eyes open I grab my phone checking the time.
6am.
Groaning, I turn over pressing my face into my pillow.

Summer has just come to a close meaning school was back on, and today...well today is my first day back. Sighing I slowly sit up, rubbing my eyes, swinging my legs over the side of my bed. My warm feet levelling out on the cold wooden flooring as I walk over to the bathroom I shared with Elena and Jeremy.

I jump into the shower letting the warm bursts of water wake me up for a boring and chaotic day of pretending that I'm okay, when really I'm not. You see long story short, my adoptive parents died this year in late spring, and in normal people terms, I'm supposed to just continue on with my life acting like it never happened.

Wiping away a stray tear, I step out of the shower brushing my long brown locks before braiding my wet hair into two Dutch braids. I unlock the three doors, walking into the landing speeding to my bedroom, dressing into the outfit I had left neatly displayed on my ready made bed. I slip on the purple top, my black jeans and jacket, shoving my feet into my brown boots before grabbing my school bag from the corner of the room.

I walk down the stairs entering the kitchen, to see my adoptive Aunt rushing around putting some bread in the toaster.

"Toast!" She exclaims, "I can make toast."

I shake my head placing my bag on the table, walking over to cupboard fishing for a cereal bar to eat.

"It's all about the coffee Aunt Jenna," Elena smiles, lifting up the coffee pot pouring herself a fresh cup.

"Is there coffee?" Jeremy asks groggily from beside me.

I nod pointing over at Elena, "Yeah, over there."

He instantly diverts over there taking a cup from Elena's hand. She glares in annoyance at him, before pouring herself another cup, walking over to lean against the back of the sofa.

"It's your first day of school and I'm totally unprepared," Jenna sighs, clearly feeling a little useless.

Jenna digs out her purse, opening it up, "Lunch money?"

"I'm ok," Elena replies politely.

She holds it out for me.

"No, I'm good thanks," I explain, opening the fridge holding up a packed lunch, "I prepared this last night."

Jenna smiles, looking over at Jeremy who swoops in and instantly takes the money from her hands.
