April

I lay down on my bed looking up at the ceiling fighting a battle with myself.

What should I do?

He was right I do need this job but I do not have the strength in me to bear any more of his insults.

Should I look for some other option?

But who’s gonna give me a job now?

I do not have any experience and I haven’t graduated yet.

Ugh…..

I closed my eyes shut and pressed a pillow above my ear and tried to fall asleep.

*The next morning*

I sat down on my bed.

The clock read 7:25 Am.

I still don’t know if I wanna go there or not.

A loud bang shook me up from my thoughts.

I walked out of my room and saw my mom peeking her head, she was shocked too.

Another loud bang.

What the hell?

Mom slowly walked down the stairs towards the main door.

Her hand shaking, she slowly opened the door.

A loud yelling came in.

“What took you so long bitch?”

“Who were you fucking inside?”

He grabbed my mother by the hair and yanked her head.

A slow whimper escaped her mouth.

He roughly pushed her away.

She failed to maintain her balance and banged her head into the wall.

Blood immediately started to pour from her forehead.

I stood there frozen.

A single tear rolled down my cheek.

He walked past her cursing.

He was too drank to stand up on his feet and immediately passed out on the couch.

I rushed down the stairs and tightly hugged my mom.

She let out painful sobs.

I held her tight and led her to my room.

I cleaned her wound and add a bandage.

Her eyes were red and puffed up.

I gently took her hand and gave a peck on her rosy cheeks.

She looked up at me.

“Mom, can you give a little more time?”

“I promise I will make everything right.”

“I won’t let you get hurt anymore.”

“I will take you out of here, far away from here and we can start again.”

“Just give a little more time.”

A loud sob escaped her mouth and tears start to roll down her cheeks.

“Mom I need you. I need you to be with me.”

“You are the one who gave me the strength to survive or I would have given up a lot earlier.”

“Just be strong for a little more and I promise….”
