Do you know what a nerd is? Let me stop you there. No it isn't a person who reads books and wears glasses and gets relatively good marks in class. It isn't someone who popular celebrities notice either. No, a nerd is a person who is clever, a person who prefers books to people, a person who doesn't always look drop-dead gorgeous, a person who generally knows more about literature, comics, movies and gaming far more than your average person. Your portrayals of all nerds in every fanfiction are, in one simple word, wrong.

'Thug life' AUs are downright stupid.

Bullying-based fanfictions are the dumbest thing ever. Why do you keep falling love with a bully? Just why? Did your parents drop you as a child? (I don't care how much he's "changed". You come off as stupid and cliche.)

Fanfiction opens a huge avenue in terms of creativity. Use it, don't abuse it.

To write (anything) well, you need to read good stuff too. Only once you stop reading rubbish (1D/5SoS fanfictions) can you write things that don't make educated people want to throw up. I understand it's hard to find, but you'll have to scour through a lot of shit to find nice stuff. (PS: PM me if you want recommendations.)
