"O-Okay! Fine...I did it. I spiked Jasper's drink. But I promise you, I meant no harm! It was only supposed to make her drowsy and possibly have some hallucinations..." You scoffed, rolling your eyes.

"That's like telling a child you didn't mean to kidnap them. You just wanted to spend some time alone with them in your creepy van because you're lonely." Kehlani chewed on her bottom lip, still not looking at you. "Why," you asked, stepping closer to her. She raised her head, her brown eyes wide.

"I—I don't know...I guess I was just so jealous th-that I let it fuel my actions. I'm sorry..."

"You shouldn't be apologizing to me. Jasper is the person whose life you could have put in danger if she was human," you spat, taking another step closer to Kehlani.

"Wha-What do you mean if she was human?"

"That's some details to some information you don't deserve to know right now. But tell me, what were you jealous for? Jasper and I are not in any kind of romantic relationship," you said, your cheeks slightly hot.

"Yeah, right. I've seen the way the two of you look at each other...and the way you act around one another. The connection you have is obvious and—I wanted that with her. Even if it was just a small portion," she said softly.

"That still doesn't justify what you did. At all. I just don't understand why you would be jealous of me...me of all people! We're supposed to be best friends, Kehlani! You're just as much of an intelligent, beautiful, and funny young woman as I am," you said, slightly raising your voice as you threw your hands in the air.

"But I'm nowhere near as confident as you are! Th-This...the Kehlani you think you know isn't real! I'm-I'm not really all that confident and outgoing...I'm extremely insecure and I have anxiety and—"

"Sweetheart," you said, chuckling as you cut her off, putting your hands on either side of her face. "What makes you think I'm as confident as you say I am? I can be just as anxious and insecure as the next person."

"B-But when we first met you just radiated so much of it I-I figured that I'd have to be confident and outgoing in order to be your friend," she said, looking down as she put one of her hands over yours.

"That's adorable...but no. You don't have to change yourself for someone else, Kehlani. Especially me. And if you do, then you shouldn't be trying to develop any kind of relationship with that person in the first place. I would have been your friend regardless. I care about you..." She giggled quietly, sighing.

       "So...what now?"

"Now you need to get out of my house. After what you did...including lying to me all these years about who you truly were? I need time to rethink our relationship as best friends," you said, stepping away from her.

"Yeah...that's—understandable. I'll go and get the rest of my and Millie's things. I'll even apologize to Jasper while I'm up there." You hummed, grabbing ahold of Kehlani's shoulders.

"I—I don't think that's a good idea. You just go and get your stuff together and I'll handle the rest." I don't want Jasper to take her anger out on Kehlani because of me...she might kill her, you thought nervously.

"No, I've gotta do this myself. What's the worst that can happen," Kehlani asked with a soft smile, walking up the stairs. She knocked on Jasper's door, and you bit your thumbnail, moving over to the side of the wall to discreetly watch their interaction. Jasper caught sight of you and pulled Kehlani into the room, closing the door again. You sighed heavily, sliding down the wall until you were sitting on the floor.
