I returned home and was greeted by my mother. "Did you make any friends?"

I raised my eyebrows. "I did actually, and I got the job."

She hugged me. "I'm so proud of you! What's your new friend's name?"

"Paul. He's the same guy I was telling you about with the beard."

"Does Paul have a last name?"

"Didn't catch it."

"Well, you'll have to invite Paul over for dinner sometime."

I laughed. "It isn't really like that, he's kinda busy."

She rolled her eyes. "How busy can he be?"

I really didn't know how to answer her, so I didn't.

"Can I go out to the woods tomorrow?"

Mother shrugged. "Sure, what time are you working?"

"10:00am to 6:00pm."

Mother shook her head. "I think it's going to be too late by the time you get home. The sun will be going down soon after you get back."

I groaned and went to my room.

"Dinner will be ready in a few, I hope you're hungry." Mother called from the kitchen.

"I ate while I was in town." I answered, my stomach twisting and turning, certainly not in hunger.
