CHAPTER ONE

silence had enveloped them.

with only the background noises filling the strained atmosphere.

fingers tapping at the keyboard, shoes bouncing against the floor, shuffling of papers, and old-school ring tones was all that was heard in the thick tension that surrounded the jeon family, whom were all currently sitting across officer park jimin at the police station.

the officer nervously flickered his gaze between all the family members.

he observed as the father stared daggers at the side of his son's skull.

he noticed how the mother was nervously twisting her wedding band around her ring finger, her eyes fixated on her lap.

he glanced at the troublemaker of a son, crossed arms and facing in the other direction to avoid the looks of both the officer and his father.

park jimin sighed.

he really had enough of seeing jeon jeongguk here.

"this is your eighteenth arrest of the year," the officer stated, leaning forward and interlacing his fingers together over his desk. "soon, bail won't cover it."

the father grumbled, hissing something under his breath out to his son, who only rolled his eyes in response. thus only infuriating the elder further, a vein throbbing painfully out on his neck as he clenched his jaw tightly.

jimin cleared his throat.

"jeongguk, why do you keep coming back here?" he questions the teen, who didn't even muffle back a reply.

"jeongguk." the father gritted through his teeth, the teenager didn't even budge. "officer park is asking you something."

no response.

jimin huffed. the young boy has left the officer with no other choice.

"mr jeon," that caught the attention of the older man. "if i send in jeongguk's report, he will be put under arrest." this was a small lie, if jeongguk was here for a heavier charge then he would be under arrest, but the truth was irrelevant at this moment.

but when the older jeon's face fell, jimin knew he made the right decision.

"unless..." the officer continued suggestively, knowing the man had fallen into his trap.

"unless what? i can't have a son who has served time! it's a disgrace to my name!" mr jeon nearly shouted, frustration painted on his stern ageing features.

"...i can erase them. all of them."

moments passed.

jeongguk was still looking absent-mindedly at the wall like it was the most interesting thing in the world. meanwhile, his parents were blinking dumbly at the officer, questioning if the young lad had just openly confessed to corruption.

"pardon?" the woman quietly whispered, her gaze finally removing from her lap.

"i'll erase them, give jeongguk here a clean record, on one condition." jimin signalled towards the teen, who still remained uninterested, with his hand.

"which is?"

"i have a friend. a tough and strict man. he straightens kids, like your son, out. you could call it... disciplinary services." a sly smirk tugged at the curve of his lips, his 'good guy' facade slowly crumbling. "if you sign the contract that would allow jeongguk to go live with him for a few months, the boy will return golden and with no criminal record."

the adults said nothing.

"it's really up to you. either the jeon name will be tainted by all of jeongguk's eighteen charges, or the kid will return home in a few months completely clean and well-behaved."

"in your fucking dreams," the teen finally spoke up, words spitting out and hitting onto the officer's cheek. "suck my dick, fag."

the homophobic slur eased so easily from his tongue, not caring about the clear looks of disgust and offence being thrown his way.

jeongguk was an asshole. he'd hit anyone where it hurt.

jimin just quirked up a brow, not letting the insult of a mere seventeen-year-old get to him. he had been called much worse, by much more powerful and intimidating people. this was just a little boy, trying to act tough.

however, his father was enraged.

"how dare you disrespect a police officer like that?!"

the officer noticed how jeongguk suddenly tensed up, grinding his teeth together, a pained expression decorating his face as his eyes flickered down at his lap. mr jeon was leaning over, his arm slightly reaching out.

it didn't take a genius to see that the man was inflicting pain on his son, whether it was his wrist or thigh, jimin couldn't tell exactly where.

jeongguk glared at his father, but fell silent.

"i suggest you read the contract carefully, mr jeon." jimin slyly pulled out a sheet from one of the drawers of his desk, settling it on the other side of the table. "if there is anything you are uncomfortable with, you can discuss with mr kim-"

"i'm signing it."

and before anyone could stop him, the elder man scribbled down his pristine signature, practically handed his son over to a man that he didn't even know the name of.

"as long as my son will no longer be such a moron, and you delete that record, i don't care."

the man stood up, throwing the paper at the speechless officer, and stalked out the station. his wife stumbled out of her seat and clutched her purse as she took quick steps to catch up to her husband. meanwhile, the son had sprung from his chair and helplessely watched his father with an expression jimin knew all too well.

panic.

the teen sprinted after his parents, bursting through the doors and running to their car. jeongguk grabbed onto his father's sleeve and yanked him around.

jimin observed from his window.

he observed as jeongguk started flailing his arms around and hollering.

he observed as mr jeon's jaw twitched and as the vein on his forehead throbbed.

he observed as mrs jeon hopelessly tried clinging onto her husband's arm, trying to reason with him.

he observed as jeongguk's head was punched to the side, making him stumble.

he observed as mrs jeon ran up to her son and tried to hold his cheek, only for him to push her off.

he observed as the father grabbed the boy's wrist, a tight hold wrapping it, hissing words into his son's ear.

he observed as jeongguk was thrown into the back of the sleek black car, the father and mother climbing into the driver and passenger seat.

he observed as the family drove off, the tinted windows concealing their figures.

concealing the toxic mess that the jeon family really is.

with a wicked smile licking at his lips, jimin dialled a familiar number and held it against the cup of his ear.

"jimin? why'd you call?"

the deep maroon voice gruffed from the other side of the line.

"you'll never believe it, taehyung." the cop could barely contain his excitement, his voice sounding giddy as he danced around on the soles of his feet.

"i got you a new kid, and his father agreed to the entire contract."
