"I just... I just can't help but feel responsible for this, it's the first time I've been left in charge of them and something bad happens." He said with a sigh.

"Tony it could've happened when any of us were watching them, it's not your fault." I said with a small smile.

He nodded and turned his attention to Maddy, taking her out of my arms and making her laugh as he pulled faces at her. I walked up to Abi and wrapped my arms around her from behind, resting my chin on her shoulder after I pressed a quick kiss to her cheek.

"Sorry about earlier." She said sheepishly.

"Hey, you don't need to apologise for anything, you were worried about Axel so it's fine." I said, hugging her a little tighter to reassure her.

"Thank you." She said softly.

"I love you." I said with a smile.

She spun around in my arms and rested her hands on my chest before tiptoeing and pressing her lips to mine, I wrapped my arms around her tighter to pull her close to me and I couldn't help but smile into the kiss.

"I love you too." She said breathlessly when we finally parted.

I rested my forehead on hers and smiled down at her, but our little moment didn't last long and the doctor walked into the room.

"Mr Barton, Miss Gilbert, can I please speak to you both outside?" The doctor asked.

We both nodded and followed him out of the room, he closed the door before he turned around to talk to us and I knew by the look on his face it wasn't anything good.

"We're going to have to keep Axel in overnight minimum, we want to observe him to make sure he isn't going to have any repercussions from this overnight or tomorrow." He explained.

I looked down at Abi and the look on her face told me she wasn't happy about this, neither was I but I knew it had to be done for Axel's sake.

"Okay." Abi said softly, I could hear in her voice that she wasn't too happy about the decision but it would be worth it.

The doctor told us we could stay for another half an hour before we had to leave, and we could come back at 9am tomorrow to see how he's doing. Hopefully, if everything is fine tonight then we could take him home tomorrow morning when we come back, but the doctor said it's all dependent on what happens overnight. We all stayed for that final half an hour before the doctor returned and asked us to leave, we all piled into the cars that the others drove here; Fury told us to leave the quinjet here and he would have it collected later. I couldn't wait to finally get home to have a shower and sleep in a proper bed for the first night in what felt like forever.

"Are you alright?" Abi asked, pulling me from my thoughts.

"Yeah I'm fine, just thinking about going home and having a shower." I said, making her chuckle.

"You could've showered at the SHIELD hospital." She said matter of factly.

"But that would've meant leaving you, I wanted to be there when you woke up and I didn't know when that would be so I didn't want to go and shower." I told her.

"You're such a cornball aren't you? I think I would've lived if I'd woken up and you were having a shower." She said, smiling up at me.

"I wouldn't have though." I whispered before pressing a kiss to her lips.

She let out a content sigh as we pulled away and she rested her head on my shoulder, we stayed in that position for the rest of the drive and eventually we finally got back to the tower. Abi was asleep when we got back so I carried her up to our room, leaving Maddy with Sam, and laid her in bed before heading into the bathroom to shower. When I came back out, she was still fast asleep and a smile spread across my face as I glanced over at her; she looked so peaceful and beautiful as she slept. I covered her over with the blanket before heading to the living room to find Maddy so I could give her dinner and put her to bed as it was getting late, and I found her sat on Sam's lap on the couch.

"Hey there little lady." I said, reaching my arms out to my little girl.

She instantly reached out for me and I scooped her up in my arms before carrying her to the kitchen to get her some dinner, I made us both some pasta before sitting down to eat it. Once we were finished, I had to bath Maddy, because she ended up wearing more of the pasta than she actually ate, and I then put her to bed before heading to bed myself; today had been a long day and I needed sleep. I crawled into bed beside Abi and wrapped my arms around her before drifting off to sleep the second my head hit the pillow.

"Clint!" I was woken by someone yelling my name.

I sat bolt upright and looked around, my eyes quickly fell on Abi and I realised it must've been her; she was thrashing around in her sleep and her forehead glistened due to the layer of sweat that had formed.

"Hey, Abi, I need you to wake up." I said, shaking her to try and wake her.

After a few attempts she finally woke up and when she realised I was beside her, she wrapped her arms around my middle and buried her head into my chest as she cried.

"Hey, it's okay, you're fine, you're safe." I whispered repeatedly as I rubbed her back soothingly.

Eventually she stopped crying and looked up at me, her cheeks were still wet with tears so I quickly swiped them away with the flick of my thumb before pressing a soft kiss on her lips.

"What happened?" I asked softly and she let out a sigh.

"I was dreaming about what happened on that island, but this time I didn't have my powers and I had to watch as they... as they..." She tried but she couldn't finish her sentence, I knew what she was going to say though.

"It's okay, it was only a bad dream, I'm right here." I said, running my hand up and down her arm.

"Do you think Fury will make me go out on another mission any time soon?" She asked.

"If you don't want to go then I'll make sure he doesn't send you out." I promised, kissing the top of her head quickly.

"Thank you." She said, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Anything for you my love." I said with a smile.

She craned her neck and kissed me before laying back down, I wrapped my arms around her and she curled up into my chest before falling asleep.

"I love you so much." I whispered before falling asleep with a big smile on my face.
