POV: Gabe

Fast forward a few years it's 8th grade. (Wow did time fly what was that like one chapter it felt like?)

I was sitting at lunch with my best buds Alan, Chad (or as Joseph still calls him "Chaddy"), Caleb, and Joseph (or since we started junior high insisted on being called Joey). I am so greatful that I have met these guys. I have learned that they all are Christian just like me! I was so excited to find this out when Caleb asked us to go to church with him and his dad (who is a pastor) and I loved hearing Mr.Grimm give his sermon.

Last weekend's sermon was about the verse Matthew 5: 13-16

13 "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Chad smirks at that verse and we all know why. Over the past years he has been saying and texting "SALTS" (Smile a little than stop) because he thinks it's 'more real' than 'LOL' and we all know this also. We all smile. I can tell that He is trying to keep from bursting out laughing, but all he can do for now is SALTS.

Now back at lunch I am having a great time hanging out with these guys. My mom has told me that they were my "light" given to me by God, and I couldn't have agreed more.

"I will be right back guys," I say.

"Come on where are you going? We don't want you to leave!" Joey explains giving me the 'puppy dog look' with those big blue eyes.

Alan nicely shoves him. (I know he knows I have to go. He has always looked out for me and acts like the brother I've never had. They all do.)

"I'm just messing with you bro," Joey laughs.

"Don't worry Joey, (in my terminator voice) I'll be back," I reply.

Joey jumps and the we all laugh.

I grab the bathroom pass and head out. As I am coming back I feel a hand grab the back of my shirt and I turn around to see three guys staring back at me.
