“I’m just going to head to the loo,” I mumble to Lou before walking in the direction of the bathroom. When I get to the bathroom I notice that the door is closed.
“I just don’t get it, Greg,” a certain Irish voice says.
I quietly take a seat against the wall to wait for the bathroom to be free.
After a few seconds pass, Niall speaks again. “I don’t know. I don’t know what I did wrong.”
Another minute passes and I start to get uncomfortable, so I stand back up.
“I mean, it’s not my fault, right?”
I just shake my head, not sure what Niall is talking to his brother about. I decide to go wait in the livingroom for Niall to leave the bathroom, but am stopped by his next words.
“All I know is that he overheard part of a dream I had, but I don’t know which part.”
Is he talking about me?
“Uh, yeah… About that… I kind of accidentally heard part of his conversation with our band’s manager yesterday.”
Well this is an interesting turn of events. Why was he listening in on that conversation?
“No, Greg, I wasn’t eavesdropping. I swear, I was just trying to go to my room and I heard him talking in the guest room!”
I bite my lip, not sure how much longer I can stand out here before Niall hangs up and walks out.
“Yeah, he told our damn band manager why he’s being so damn distant and won’t even try to talk to me about it. Honestly, I’m starting to get sick of all the bullshit I’ve had to go through because of this relationship.”
I turn away from the bathroom, scurry past the kitchen, and walk out the door. As soon as I’m in the hallway with the door closed behind me, I break down and fall to the floor. Why? I finally start trying to fix things… How did I let things get this bad?
“Liam, what’s wrong?” someone asks.
“Nothing,” I mumble against my arms.
“Liam, look at me,” the person commands.
I lift my head slightly and roll my eyes at the dark-haired boy in front of me. “Happy?”
“Yes, thank you,” Zayn replies. “Now tell me what’s going on.”
“It’s just, I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I had everything I could possibly ask for and more, but I took it all for granted,” I explain, surprised at how calm my voice appears to be.
“What do you mean?” Zayn questions, confusion clear on his face.
“I went to go to the bathroom and overheard Niall on the phone with his brother,” I state as if that is the answer to everything.
“And…?” Zayn urges.
“And I heard him say that he’s sick of th-the bullshit I’ve p-put him through,” I choke as tears start streaming down my cheeks.
“Are you sure that’s what he said, Li?” Zayn queries, his tone filled with surprise.
“W-well, he said s-something along those l-lines,” I concede. “B-but I know that it’s m-my fault. I just don’t know how I c-could have let things g-go for this long…”
“Here, just take this and try to calm yourself down,” Zayn says, offering me a tissue. After I’ve wiped away some of my tears, he continues. “Now, can you tell me why you think this is your fault?”
