Kabanata 30

To the boy who read my letter

On the day of the Lunar Feast, Beth and Rona greeted me with a cheerful smile umaga pa lamang. Portia was gracefully pouring a jasmine tea on my teacup while my other maids were beaming at me. I can feel that they have something to tell me pero hindi nila iyon masabi. I was getting irritated kaya naman ako na mismo ang nagtanong.

"Do you have something to say, Rona?" I asked as I sip on my tea.

Napangiwi ako dahil sa nalasahang pait. I immediately grab a cube of sugar at nilagay iyon sa tsaa ko. Yup. Much better.

"Mag-papaalam po sana kami para makapunta sa Lunar feast, Lady Amaury."

Napabuga ako ng tsaa na iniinom at marahas na umubo. Portia immediately rubbed my back.

"Are you alright, Miss?" Portia asked kaya naman tumango ako bilang pagtugon.

Bumaling ako sa dalawa na magkadaop palad, hoping that I will allow them to take the day off para makapasyal sa pista.

"Lunar Feast? Why?"

Gusto ko silang pagbawalan dahil alam ko na ang mga kababaihan ang mga dinadakip ng mga bandido. Rona and Beth were actually pretty kung maayusan. Kaya naman malakas ang kutob ko na baka isa sila sa mapahamak mamaya. Though alam ko na maliligtas ang mga kababaihan, hindi ko pa din maalis sa utak ko ang pagkabahala.

"It is the only festival na we are allowed to go, Lady Amaury. Kaya naman dapat ay makadalo kami." Ningning na mata na sagot ni Rona.

"But..." I bit my lower lip, "Isn't it dangerous?"

"What? Of course not, Miss!" They laugh, "Maraming guards ang nakapaligid. And I will be with my friends on the feast kaya naman hindi ako mapapahamak. Beth will be having a date with his fiancé. Are you too coming, Portia?"

I look at Portia when Rona ask her.

Umiling siya, "I will remain at the mansion for you, Lady Amaury."

A relief went inside of me. "How about, let's have a picnic on the mansion's wall? You don't have to go to the feast because we will celebrate it in here." Suggestion ko upang mapigilan ang pag-alis nila.

"Ehh!" Agad na maktol nila, "One day event lang ito, Miss. Nakakapang-hinayang naman kung ang tanging event na pwede kaming mga commoners ay hindi namin madadaluhan."

"But Portia is okay with not going right? Should we hold a party here para sainyo?" I suggested a ridiculous idea.

Horror went to their faces, "Party for us? In Duke's mansion? I would rather die, young miss!" Una nilang sabi.

"Besides Portia doesn't like going to the events like this. Kung gusto man niya, she can attend any events she wanted.".

"Rona..." Portia said with her warning tone.

Then Beth speaks after being quiet, "How about you come to the feast with us, Lady Amaury? I know you would enjoy it."

Going to the feast was not in the question. I would never go to such event that would get my life in danger. When I went inside this novel and become Amaury Clerebold alam ko na agad ang mangyayari sa takbo ng buhay ko. I will die kaya naman I did plan to change my fate. My goal is to keep my life safe. If I go to that festival with them para ko na ring binasura ang buhay ko. I won't let my life be in danger. I may be kind to them, but I do cherish my life. Ayoko silang mapahamak pero kung hindi pa din sapat ang warning at pagpigil ko sakanila then wala na akong magagawa pa.

"Sorry, ladies. I am not interested in such events." I said then their hopeful faces crumbles, I sipped on my tea before continuing, "...But I am giving you permission to go out. Remember to be back no later than midnight."
