Dipper paused for a moment.
"I mean, I realized it almost three months in, but I didn't want to accept it unless you woke up..."
"...and after nine months...I never thought you'd wake up...so I tried to push you away...I told you-"
"You yelled at me, told me I needed to make up my mind. I think your exact words were 'I am not coming back until you make up your fucking mind.' And broke something I think." Bill said, cutting Dipper off.
Dipper looked at him wide-eyed.
"You...you remember?" Dipper asked. Bill slowly nodded.
"I don't remember everything. But small snippets. But I remember that day. My mind felt...clearer that day. It was strange. You sounded so hurt...I just...I tried to hard to do something, anything to show you I could hear you...but my stupid body didn't let me do anything." Bill said.
Bill paused for a moment, probably just for dramatic effect.
"I remember dreaming after that. And I got to chose. Life or Death. It was like something out of a movie. And then I saw you...in my dream...I saw you drowning. And I woke up. I had enough time to throw my pants and hoodie over my hospital gown before I ran over to the lake." Bill explained.
"I'm just glad you're alive Pine Tree..." Bill said.
"I should be telling you that. You took a bullet for me. And jumped into a lake after me..." Dipper said quietly.
"And I'd do it again," Bill said.
"No, you don't get to take any more bullets for me," Dipper said.
"Then stop getting shot at Pine Tree." Bill teased.
"Wait a minute, you're changing the subject. I was complaining about the nine months of you being in the coma." Dipper said. Bill put a finger to Dipper's lips.
"I get it. I'm an ass for taking a bullet for you and then sleeping in for nine months. Just please tell me you didn't have a baby while I was out." Bill joked. Dipper rolled his eyes.
"Just...shut up for a minute, could you?" Dipper asked.
"Hmm...nope! I can't let you have the satisfaction now can I?" Bill asked. Dipper rolled his eyes yet again.
Dipper looked around the room for a moment, realizing Bill was the only one there.
"Wait a minute...where's my family? How long have I been here?" Dipper asked.
"Well, I'm not the only one who's been out for nine months," Bill said.
"What!?"
"Kidding, you've only been out for a day. Your sister and grunkles were here but they left. It's three in the morning Pine Tree." Bill said.
"Oh, I shouldn't have woke you up. You must be tired." Dipper said.
"Pine Tree, I've been asleep for nine months. I'm fine." Bill commented.
The two of them sat in silence for a moment.
"So...you mentioned you realizing something before...?" Bill asked. Dipper's face went red.
"Oh...um...I was going to say it in the heat of the moment but...I don't know if I can now...not yet..." Dipper said.
Bill laughed.
"Take as much time as you need Pine Tree. I'm not going anywhere." Bill said.
"Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. You've already been here for nine months." Dipper joked. Bill and Dipper laughed.
"I missed you." Dipper said, "It's nice to talk to you when you actually can talk back."
"Yeah, and it's nice to actually be able to respond," Bill said.
"So...how much do you remember?" Dipper asked.
"Well, like I said, its just bits and pieces. But I remember that day you opened my notebook. And when you came in with everyone for prom, you still need to show me those pictures by the way, and I also remember that time you ran in and tripped on your own feet. Although I probably wouldn't remember if you hadn't described it to me." Bill said laughing.
"Yeah...that was kind of embarrassing. I don't know why I even told you...I guess I just kind of unconsciously decided you probably couldn't hear me." Dipper said.
"Yeah..." Bill said, "Now, you have to show me those prom pictures."
"Fine..." Dipper said, he went for his phone but realized he was wearing a hospital gown, not his hoodie.
"Do you know where my phone is?" Dipper asked.
Bill nodded and pulled it out of his pocket and handed it to Dipper.
Dipper opened his phone and opened the prom pictures handing his phone to Bill.
"Oh my God! Pine Tree! You look adorable!!! And you pushed your hair back!!!" Bill said excitedly.
"Yeah...I wasn't going to go...but Mabel kinda forced me." Dipper said.
"Well I should thank her, you look adorable!" Bill said.
He continued to scroll through the pictures, while Dipper giving him all the details of the night.
"So, did the doctor say if I could go home or not?" Dipper eventually asked.
"Yeah, we were just waiting for you to wake up. I can drive you home if you want." Bill offered. Dipper nodded.
Bill stood up and grabbed a stack of clothing that was folded up on an empty chair.
"Here, Mabel brought you a change of clothes," Bill said.
"I can step out so you can change," Bill said.
"You can stay if you want. I trust you. Plus, it's not like I'm changing my underwear. I can always change them when I get home." Dipper said.
Bill just nodded and helped Dipper to his feet.
As soon as Dipper was standing, his feet gave out from under him, from lack of use for the last day. Bill quickly caught him in his arms.
Bill smirked at Dipper.
"You did that on purpose," Bill said.
"I did not," Dipper said, though he did not let go. In fact, he clutched Bill even closer, as if afraid that he would leave.
Bill ran a hand through Dipper's hair, kissing his forehead.
"Come on Pine Tree, I'll take you home," Bill said quietly, holding Dipper close, thankful that both of them were alive and ok.
