Entry Re: Rebecca Hollandsworth

"Ma'am we have a shot."

A man in combat fatigues stood from across the link. The words hit her eardrums but didn't register. She wiped her swollen eyelids and straightened up.

"Come again," Rebecca said.

"One of our snipers posted on top of the parking garage next door has a clear shot. What are your orders?"

"Take him-"

She caught herself. Maybe Robert was right. She had let her ambition and jealousy grind her into a paste, a husk of what she had been. Rebecca remembered sitting outside the medical tent the night he had taken the bullet for her, praying to God. She promised she would never let him out of her sight again, that she would protect him for the rest of her life. She had failed, but she could still protect his plans, whatever they were.

"Ma'am?"

I trusted you all once, and I'm trusting you now.

Rebecca felt Robert's arms wrapped around her. She felt the warm touch of his body lying next to his. Every fight he had backed her up, every time she needed him, he had been there.

Please, let it finish.

"Secretary, what are your orders?"

"Stand down."

The man looked almost as surprised as Rebecca.

"Ma'am?"

"I said stand down."
