my mom sat down next to me. she was crying, sweating and shaking. i put my phone in my pocket, stuffing my hands in my hoodie pocket. i stared at the wall blankly.

mom: go home. i'll call you tomorrow when you can come back. you don't have to go to school.
me: you want me to just leave?
mom: i don't want you to stress. he's gonna be okay. go to kairi's house or something.
