these days

These days kids are learning to put up walls
To hide what they truly feel
To let the only telling signs
Be there dull eyes
These days kids arent dreaming of having a mansion
Or being rich
To see fairies
Or mermaids
What they dream and wish for
Is a happy life
To want to live
To feel wanted.
The saddest part about this truth
Is that when someone dreams
It's something they believe is unattainable.
These days kids are learning to cover their scars
To smile when they cry
To hide away their feelings.
These days kids don't believe that they could be truly happy
That they can want to live.
They dont think about growing old
And having grandkids
They think about getting to 30
Maybe having a kid
But they dont see a future
In this world
They only see more pain
And it scares even the most stoic of people.
These days kids dont want to live a fantasy,
they want to live a happy life
