Brienne of Tarth X Fem!Reader - Salute

"Girls know nothing of war," he attempted to continue, only for your nose to wrinkle up in disgust as you fixed him with a glare.

"Do not attempt to tell me that I know nothing of war," you growled, pausing as his stern expression faltered under your gaze. "I know more of war than most high-born men my age. My village was torn to the ground around me by soldiers and I had to protect myself from full grown, fully trained men when I was still a child. That war wasn't mine and yet it still came for me. This war will leave no one alone. These girls have no choice but to know war. As those with experience of it, it is our responsibility to prepare them for what is to come. Don't you agree, M'lord?"

There was a moment of silence as he looked at you, his brow furrowed as he considered his next options. "I do."

"Wonderful. Then you'll excuse me whilst I get on with doing my job, M'lord," you hissed.

You glanced beside you to see Lyanna Mormont grinning in your direction, and she quickly got to her feet. "I don't intend to sit knitting by the fire whilst the men do my fighting for me, Lord Glover." There was a moment of silence as she turned to look at you fully. "Y/N is the leader that the women of the North need. Without her, we would have no chance at winning this war because half of our warriors would have been left in the safety of their chambers."

"Thank you, M'lady," you murmured, getting to your feet. "If you don't mind, I've got work to do," you added, turning on your heel and making your way out of the Great Hall.

You were already in the hallway when Brienne caught up to you. "You shouldn't listen to him," she started, and a small smile came to your lips as you glanced over at her.

"That's hard to do when he's being so damned loud," you murmured, causing her to release a small chuckle. You quickly decided that you quite enjoyed the sound. "How are your newest recruits doing?"

She nodded slightly as you both paused. "They're getting there. A world better than they were before."

You nodded along, your tongue running over your teeth. "You think they'll be ready?"

"Yes," she uttered, her smile fading slightly. "They are pushing themselves hard. They know what's coming."

A small hum escaped you as you glanced up at her. "Good. The more we know the easier they'll be to defeat." Your smile suddenly came back in full force, leaving Brienne a little startled. "You're a brilliant teacher. Once this is all over you should consider taking it on professionally."

"Thank you," she murmured, watching as you nodded.

"I'll see you later," you uttered. "I'm almost certain that I've forgotten something I have to do," you added as you fingers lifted to rub at your temple.

"You have a meeting with Jon and Daenerys," she started, watching as your brow furrowed. "To discuss tactics," she added, watching as you nodded.

"Of course I do," you sighed, straightening out your tunic. "This'll be fun," you added, glancing over at her. "Are you going to join us?"

Brienne's brow furrowed in confusion as you smiled up at her. "Me?"

You nodded. "You've proven yourself to be a useful second in command, Brienne, and you know the girls better than anyone else. I think it would be good for you to give us your input." You paused for a moment, your smile twitching slightly. "And I quiet enjoy having you around."

"Oh," Brienne murmured, blinking as she attempted to work out what you meant.

"I like you, Brienne, and with the end of the world on the horizon I thought it would be best to be honest about it."
