chapter thirty-one: jason apparently has a long-lost hot sister named talia (thalia—my bad) & she already hates my guts :P

__________________________________________

LEO FIGURED he had the worst luck in the group, and that was saying a lot.

he didn't get the long-lost sister who was some princess, and led a band of immortal huntresses on werewolf hunts. or, the movie star father, who needed rescuing from a resurrected giant intending to starting a war. he didn't even get a literal modern-day greek hero of a best friend who'd gone missing in the dead of night, and needed to be found somewhere in the world

no, all leo got was a tool belt, and a dragon that he, and his sister fixed, and the very same dragon happened to break down halfway through their quest. maybe, it was that stupid curse the hephaestus cabin had been so adamant existed, but leo unfortunately didn't get to use a curse as a scapegoat. his life had been unlucky long before he'd gotten to camp half-blood.

a thousand years into the future, when the quest would be retold for over, and over the next few millennia, at a campfire, or in the middle of the night to scare children into behaving, leo figured that they wouldn't speak about him very much. he figured they speak about the brave jason, the beautiful piper, the heroic chandler, and then him, their sidekick, leo flaming valdez, who accompanied them with a bag of magic screwdrivers, and occasionally fixed tofu burgers.

if that wasn't bad enough, leo fell in love with every girl he saw. well, every girl he saw as long as they were completely out of his league.

when he first saw thalia, leo immediately thought she was way too pretty to be jason's sister. well, considering how much they looked alike, that might've been ridiculous to think, but he felt as such. then, he thought he'd better not say that or he'd get in trouble. he liked her dark hair, her blue eyes, and her confident attitude. she looked like the kind of girl who could stomp anybody on the ball court, or the battlefield, and wouldn't give leo the time of day. just his type!

for a minute, jason, and thalia faced each other, stunned. then, she rushed forward, similarly to what she'd done with his sister, chandler, and hugged him. "my gods," has murmured, absolutely astonished, as if she never dreamed she'd ever see him alive again. "she told me you were dead!" she gripped jason's face, and seemed to be examining everything about it. "thank artemis, it is you. that little scar on your lip, you tried to eat a stapler when you were two!"

chandler seemed to enjoy the little fact about him, a teeny smile of amusement curling on her lips. "seriously?"

hedge nodded like he approved of jason's dietary choices. "staplers," he gave the honey blonde a thumbs up, "excellent source of iron."

"w-wait," jason stammered, blinking at his sister confusedly. from what leo knew, it was the second time he'd been told by someone since he'd woken up on the school bus that he was supposed to be dead. the hephaestus boy figured it wasn't something he liked to hear. "who told you i was dead? what happened?"

at the cave entrance, one of the white wolves barked. thalia glanced over her shoulder, and met the wolf's stare, and nodded. she kept her hands on jason's face, as if her vanished if she looked away from him too long. "my wolf," she translated for them, "is telling me i don't have much time, and she's right. but we have to talk. let's sit."

piper did much better than that, she collapsed. she would've cracked her head on the cave floor if hedge hadn't caught her. thalia rushed over, quickly prioritizing the girl's health over the reunion with her brother? "what's wrong with her? ah, never mind. i see. hypothermia. ankle." she frowned at the satyr, a tilt to her head, an almost disappointed expression. "don't you know nature healing?"
