Take a photo of one of you tossing a coin into a fountain

It was Wednesday morning, and Grant High School had the day off because of a staff meeting. Kira had texted Buffy first thing in the morning to ask her to hang out.

Now, the two girls walked down a park promenade together, their fingers loosely intertwined. They both halted when they approached a large, elegant fountain. Buffy reached into her purse for a coin, handing a dime to Kira.

"Because you're a dime," she explained with a giggle.

Kira smiled gratefully and walked up to the fountain, closing her eyes and mouthing something wordlessly. Buffy reached for her camera and snapped a photo, making sure to capture passerby and birds in the background.

Not but a moment later, Kira walked back over to Buffy and took her hand to continue their walk.

"So...what did you wish for?" Buffy inquired.

Kira looked to the sky, her mind clearly ruminating.

"I wished for forgiveness," she finally breathed. "From this...person--this girl--that I like. I want her to see that my heart's in the right place, even though it doesn't come out that way a lot of times. I genuinely care about her."

This had definitely sparked Buffy's interest, and she could practically feel herself growing green with envy. "Oh, who is this...girl you're referring to?"

"The girl...is you, Buffy Driscoll."

Only a few hours had passed since the two had walked silently towards their homes together. Well, almost silently. Before the two had parted ways, Buffy looked Kira into the eyes and whispered, "I forgave you a long time ago, Kira."

Now, Buffy sat at her desk and pondered her feelings. Did she truly like Kira back? And even if she did, did she like her enough to stand up to her friends? Who is she kidding...she's liked Kira for a long, long time. Perhaps even more, than she originally thought.

She had to tell her.

Take a photo with the both of you, together

Thursday morning, Buffy drove to school with a heavy heart. Would Kira forgive her if she put her friends' desires first? Would her friends forgive her if she put Kira first? Buffy was torn between her heart and her head. Maybe she was overthinking things; after all, the drama between Kira and TJ had happened years ago. Even TJ himself didn't dwell on it anymore.

"Slayer, hey!" Kira shouted, running up to greet Buffy with a tight hug. "We still have one more photograph to take."

"Oh, yeah, we have to take one of the both of us, together," Buffy replied. "But you can't really take selfies on these digital cameras. Let's find somebody to take a photo of us."

As if on cue, sent by fate itself, TJ and Cyrus strolled past the two girls, hand-in-hand.

"Buffy! And..."

"...Kira." Cyrus narrowed his eyes, taking in the sight before him. "Is this what you meant by you having a 'project' to work on?"

Buffy nodded solemnly, trying to avoid her friends' stares. "Kira is a different person, a changed person. And we've spent a lot of time together over this past couple of days. I really, really like her. And she likes me, too."

Kira gave Buffy an encouraging smile and their fingers intertwined. Cyrus' face softened, and TJ's expression remained neutral. "I know it will take time, but if you'll give me a chance..." Kira began. Cyrus walked up to her and wordlessly hugged her, much to the amazement of Buffy. He then gave TJ a knowing look, and TJ responded with a sigh.

"Sometimes, there's a nice person inside trying to get out. I'll give you a chance, too, Kira. But only because I love Cyrus. And...I know what it's like to be insecure. To put others down because of it. But we're all here for you."

"We're also all really gay!" Cyrus shrieked, sending the group into hysterics as they nodded in agreement.

"TJ, do you think you could snap a photo of Buffy and I together? It's for our project."

TJ took the camera, nodding. "Now, kiss her!" he shouted, grinning like a goofball.

"What?!" Kira squeaked as Buffy stood there with wide eyes.

"We all know you want to kiss each other," Cyrus teased. "Now, kiss!"

Without another moment of hesitation, Buffy and Kira leaned into each other and kissed, and Buffy could've sworn they had been whisked away to some other planet where it was just her and Kira. It was like sipping a velvety root beer float, like dancing to her favorite song in a food court, like twirling in a beautiful gown, like tossing a wish into a fountain and having it come true...

It was a whole lot like love.
