Nick gulped, trying to stop himself from crying. He walked over to the side of the bed and sat down, taking Miles' hand in his own. He massaged small circles into the base of his thumb, the entirety of him feeling like he was underwater. He could feel himself breaking down, his lungs becoming tight and painful. He couldn't process anything, his mind just felt foggy and dull, not a single coherent thought being produced. He'd only known Miles for a couple of weeks but it felt like he'd known him forever. He didn't know what he'd do with himself if he actually... physically... died. That's when the tears began. They started small, just small tears running down his cheeks, nothing big. Then, the sobs began to wrack his whole body, causing him to tremor and shake, and feel like he was going to throw up.
He dashed to the small bathroom in Miles' room and threw up bile into the toilet. The acidity burned his throat and mouth. He drank a glass of water and went back into the room, retaking his position on Miles' bed, continuing to rub the base of his thumb soothingly. He'd read that sometimes while in comas, people are still conscious and can still feel and hear everything going on, they just can't move, speak, blink, anything. they could only feel, smell and hear. So, with that thought in mind, Phoenix began to sing. Just a small song, softly and carefully as to not disturb anyone else in the hospital.
''I don't know if I should stay or should I go
He told me this house would always be our home
Won't you stay with me? No one to be.
Everyone tells me you're fine, don't be in love
Let's make this House a Habit
Let's make the sunshine
Just stay with me tomorrow oooo ahhhh
And tell me all your secrets
I'll tell you what I know
Just bear with me tomorrow oooo,'' He sang, his whole being shaking with sobs again. He placed his head on Miles' chest,
''Everyone tells me you just stay the same, but it's not like that no it's not like that ahhhh
Tell me someone's out there listening to me cause I wanna know that like I wanna know you
Stay with me, no one to be
Everyone tells me you're fine don't be in love
Let's make this House a Habit
Let's make the sunshine
Just stay with me tomorrow oooo ahhhh
And tell me all your secrets
I'll tell you what I know
Just bear with me tomorrow oooo,'' He continued, soaking the front of Miles' hospital gown with tears. His whole body was numb to everything, he didn't care if anyone heard him. He continued singing.
''Wide open skies ahead
Here's where I lay myself down and
Wait till rivers rise up over my own head
Oh please don't imagine a life without me at least not yet. This house is a habit and it's lovely to live in it
Comfort stirs inside my bed
This head is a hospital someone please tend to it
Chorus:
Let's make this House a Habit
Let's make the sunshine
Just stay with me tomorrow oooo ahhhh,'' His voice shook uncontrollably now, his whole body filled with remorse and loss.
