I run towards the other three who are now aware of my presence once more. Chris is slowly gaining on me, and I push myself as hard as I can to get away, but still it was no use. He was faster than me.
He tackles me to the ground, and I slam into the sod with a loud thump, right beside Teddy and Lachance.
"Touchdown!" Chris yells from on me.
He stands up and dusts off his hands on the back of my shirt, "That's what you get for challenging the Christopher Chambers!"
I turn to see him, standing proudly beside me. Teddy cackles wildly, and pats him on the back.
"You really contained the threat huh Christopher?" Teddy is laughing hard enough to cry.
I roll over on my back and sit up to face Gordie. "How'd I do?" I smile
He just sighs, "Real good Y/N, real good."
Gordie looks at me, "You've got a little uh.." He hesitates, "A little.. dirt, there." He gestures to my face.
I shove my palm across my face too see how dirty it was. I pull my hand back to see nothing on my fingers.
"Gotcha dipshit." Gordie laughs.
I push my palms into the ground to help me get up. I glare at Gordie with a smile on my face. I kick the toe of his shoe lightly in spite.
My eyes flicker over to Chris quickly, before almost instantly shooting to the ground from embarrassment. I can hear him quietly laugh under his breath.
"I think we all really needed this, huh?" I giggle, looking up to see Teddy, Gordie, and Vern all laughing together.
Chris nods and puts his hand on my shoulder lightly. His skin is warm against mine. "It did all of us a little good huh? Thank you."
The rest of the boys nod and throw their praise in too. Moments pass by before Chris nervously tears his arm from my shoulder-- forgetting he had let it rest there.
"Ohhhhh Chris is nervous." Teddy mocks.
Chris takes a defensive step back, "And you're missing your clothes."
Teddy laughs, but then tip his head down to his chest, and back up to Chris. "Oh you asshole." He smiles and runs at Chambers.
Chris tosses Teddy's pants to me, and I take off running.
From behind me in his normal screechy voice he shouts, "Just because you're a girl doesn't mean I can't take you down."
I hear him gaining ground on me, so I push all my energy into my arm and toss his shirt as far away as I can, before slamming into the ground once more. I let out a small groan, before he rolls off me pissing himself laughing.
I look out to the horizon and the sky is starting to turn a pale pink from the sunrise.
"Holy shit it's morning already!" I scream.
The boys scream in absolute terror. Vern, Teddy, and Gordie rush to leave as fast as their feet can carry them, some leaving their clothes behind.
By the time that I stand up from the ground, they were off in the distance across the meadows. I turn away from the sunrise and see Chris standing there, outlined by the sun. I step towards him just a little.
"Aren't you gonna go too?" I ask.
He kinda smiles, "I'm not going anywhere."
I just kinda laugh, "Neither am I"
He leans in close to my face once more, it's become more or less familiar to me. I stand there, awaiting his kiss once more, and I close my eyes.
He giggles, "What?"
I flicker my eyes open nervously, "Huh? I- I uhm.." I stumble over everything I was trying to say.
He just takes a glance over my face and kisses my nose.
"There." He smiles
I shove his shoulder, annoyed. "Oh c'mon Chambers. You're telling me you don't want to?"
He runs a few fingers through my hair, "Of course I want to."
After a couple of moments, we sit down at the edge of the creek once more to watch the sun rise. We have light conversation about our dreams and the future ahead of us and the guys. I let out a deep sigh and go silent, staring out at the sun, now more visible in the sky and prettier than ever before. I subconsciously lean my head on Chris's shoulder and just smile. He rests his arm around me lightly, and pulls me closer to him.
He tips my head backwards by my chin and looks down at me. He glances from my eyes to my lips and back again.
The corners of my lips turn up. He leans in and presses his lips to mine for more than a short moment. My eyes flutter shut instinctively, and butterflies rise throughout my stomach as I feel his warmth against me.
When he pulls back, he leaves me breathless, and shaking. I'm weak in my knees as I look back to Chris. He's still smiling, but he looks a little curious-- if anything, I'd take it as impressed.
"What is it, Chambers?" I stick my tongue out at him, playfully.
He just looks down at the ground bashfully, "Oh c'mon." He mumbles, "I can't help it."
"Help what?"
He laughs, "This."
He leans in and kisses me once more, a little slower than the last one. When he pulls away, he bites my lip.
I sigh, "Oh lord what am I gonna do with you?"
He just giggles as we make our way back to the tree house, long after sunrise.
