'Saber, by my last command spell destroy the holy grail.' The last red marking on the boy's hand disappeared.
The blond haired girl closed her eyes and smiled. 'Yes.' Her golden sword began emitting a brilliant radiance. She tightened her grip and raised it above her head. Lights particles surrounded her, illuminating her fair white skin.
The boy knew what this meant. This is the end. The girl he so desperately loved would disappear and he is powerless to do anything about it.
The girl opened her eyes, revealing them to be green and filled with determination. She took a single step forward and brought the sword down.
A blast of magical energy erupted from the blade, honing in on the corruption of this war, the holy grail. The boy's heart tightened.
The magical energy engulfed the grail, obliterating it. The boy so desperately wanted to look away, but doing so would make him a coward. He would see this through together with his beloved.
The destruction of the grail blinded him. When he regained vision, he stood in a grassy field together with the girl. Her battle attire replaced by a white dress.
They stared each other in the eyes for what felt like an eternity. The boy had so much to say, but his lips were frozen. He just wanted this to last forever, but the world wouldn't allow it.
'Hereby my vow has been completed, Shirou.' The girl said smiling at her lover. Those words stung. He wanted to tell her once more he loves her. He wanted to hold her. He wanted to kiss her. He hid those emotions and sadness with a smile.
'Yes, Saber. Thank you for staying with me.'
The morning sun rose from behind Saber, blinding the boy. He quickly looked back at his lover in a panic, but she wasn't there anymore. He stood alone in a deserted, ruined field of the Fuyuki Shrine. 'That really is like her.'
And so time began to pass, Shirou finished high school and left his small town of Fuyuki. His heart held two dreams. Both considered to be foolish: to be a hero of justice and the even more impossible dream to meet his loved one even if for a mere minute.
Before he truly began his journey to become a hero of justice, he visited a certain place. A place dear to the heart of his lover. He toured England, experiencing the wonderful English culture.
One of the first things he tried was the local food. A single bite upset his stomach. He chuckled 'Now I understand why she liked my cooking so much.'
He visited the Mage's clock tower together with Tohsaka. The brilliant Tohsaka fit perfectly in the cold, professional atmosphere of the clock tower. He saw many incredible feats of magecraft. He stared at his hands. The hands of a third rate mage. Compared to Tohsaka and other mages, he was a complete novice and in a straight fight would not stand a chance. But he would hone every single aspect of himself to the extreme so he would win no matter what. He would continue training as he did with Saber, but now alone.
'Emiya, are you going to keep staring at your hand or are you going to escort me?' The black haired twin-tailed girl said with an annoying tone in her voice.
'Yes, yes, Tohsaka. Give me one second.'
There was a small medieval festival going on. Illya invited him to come along with her. They dressed up, drank mead and did many fun things. Shirou eventually saw an archery range, it had been many years since he last shot an arrow, but he felt confident in his ability. He paid the vendor and picked up the bow. Holding a bow felt like second nature to him. It was as if his true calling was to be an archer. He closed his left eye, pulled back the sinew and released the arrow all in one swift motion. The arrow hit its target. Bulls-eye.
