"As you command," Derick replied.

Calder and I left Derick's house and returned to Cygnus Keep.

I sat in my room and was trying to come up with a plan.

Would marrying Melisande really solve this problem with Nysa?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

My thoughts were interrupted by someone knocking on my door.

I opened it to find Leon standing there.

"What are you doing here?" I asked.

"The High One sent me," Leon replied.

"Why?" I asked as I raised an eyebrow.

"Because he's worried about you," Leon replied, "And he wants you to try and negotiate terms with Nysa. Maybe there's another way to resolve this mess."

"Why should I listen to Damien?" I asked.

"Because he's your older brother and the High One," Leon replied, "Forgive me for saying this, but Sire, you're being really stupid."

I sighed. Leon was right. I was being stupid. I had given in to the terms of the contract without even trying to negotiate with Nysa.

"Fine I'll negotiate with Nysa, but if that goes sideways then the contract is back on the table," I told him.

"As you wish," Leon replied.

I should have seen this coming. Fledglings, despite their low ranking, were extremely close to their Sires. So it should have been no surprise to me that Damien had sent Leon here to talk to me.

And I was secretly grateful that my brother had.

"Let's go see Tatiana," I told Leon. My Fledgling nodded and the two of us walked down the hall.

"Tell me what's been going in Cygnus Keep," I told Leon, "Anything interesting?"

"Selena's plan for the school is underway," Leon told me, "She's even found a Headmaster."

"Good. Anyone I know?" I asked.

"Me," Leon replied.
