the mathews eldest siblings were very different yet similar in many ways.

serious wasn't in either of their vocabularies, they had both been to the cooler their fare share but there was things that made them different. y/n hated blondes , just wasn't her type (sorry soda), y/n loved late nights in fields or on roofs, two-bit loved blondes and thought going to a field late at night was damn well stupid, you'd probably catch a cold and you coulda just been in your own god damned bed to begin with. and you could fall off a roof and brake your neck. y/n was in her senior year the highest grade out of all her friends, she had finished her junior year with average marks two-bit on the other hand was doing it all again.

y/n wanted to get out of tulsa make something of herself, two-bit was content with his life, boozed up most nights or hours of the day, picking up broads, getting in fights. he didn't mind that it was the same routine every week y/n on the other hand hated it. she wanted the opposite of simple whatever that was, and thats what she got when dallas winston laid next to her in her designated field, which no one knew about.

they talked about nothing that interesting in particular but it changed the relationship, she saw a bit of dallas she was pretty damn sure no one else had seen in a long time, and it gave her sense of pride, but that didn't mean she was gonna go around town bragging that dallas winston had been soft around her even if she really wanted to.

she strolled around the town walking towards the dingo when she saw the flashing sign and heard the nose of rowdy teenagers, most of the shouts probably coming from her friends. she saw the gang all piling up in a booth, some other gangs hanging around to having a chat. probably telling some stories that were over exaggerated about a car, a fight, or a broad. y/n strutted over in some of her new clothes, she had worked her ass off to get the money and she was gonna show it off because in the end that was the whole point of it.

her new jeans clung to her legs, a new blouse that was striped sat on her top half, and some second hand chucks from her friends brother who bought a new pair offering his old ones to her because they had the same size as well the fact that you could see her toes in the other pair she had. her hair was out and brushed, and angela and had gone a little crazy with the hairspray. it was curled loosely and looked different than usual, and angela had even managed to persuade her to put some make up on. the boys weren't aware that she was gonna be dolled up so when they saw her, they were gobsmacked.

y/n had been talking to her friend betty, who was a waitress asking for a shake and conversing lightly. the girls both laughed loudly at some dumb joke y/n had made and that caught the groups attention. at first they thought it was just some hot broad but when they turned around two-bit spit out his milkshake. y/n laughed saying a goodbye to betty and wondering off to the booth.

"where you going lookin' like that?" said a protective two-bit. all the boys looked up with curious expressions.

"oh shove off, i bought some new clothes and then angela insisted on hair and makeup, ain't my fault, she's real hard to say no to. i'm hanging with y'all tonight thats who." she justified sliding into the seat stealing a fry from sodapop's tray.

"then why do you look like you're goin' on date?" said a confused johnny cade from next to her.

"didn't ya hear? james dean called me last night, boys are just knocking our door down right two?" y/n joked ruffling johnny's hair.

everyone laughed except two-bit who rolled his eyes, "no but seriously, no date just trying something new."

"you look a like a girl, its freaking me out." said a sodapop across from her.

"i ain't in a dress or somethin' why do i look different now?" she shook her asking no one in particular stealing another few fries.

"its the lipstick, definitly the lipstick." said ponyboy with a knowing nod.
