It was so hard to leave Madelyn to go to school, but it felt so nice to have a normal life. I got up on the first day of school, took a hot shower, pulled on a new outfit that Gran had bought for me, and pulled a brush through my hair. I ate a bowl of cereal, kissed Madelyn, hugged Gran and began my walk to school. I was nervous about how I'd be treated, and I already knew that I wouldn't have friends. In my eyes, friends were overrated. Holden proved to me that friends were just people that would turn on you and throw your past in your face. I wouldn't be rude to the kids at school, but I'd never let them find out who I was.

“Class, this is Jasmine Jansen, she's new to our town and our school and I expect you to be nice to her. Sienna, I'd appreciate it if you could show Jasmine around.” The beautiful redheaded teacher spoke with a smile.

“Yes Miss Tucker. I'd be happy to show her around.” This time it was a small blonde girl that spoke.

She stood to her feet and bounced over to me with a wide grin on her face.

“Hi, I'm Sienna Potter. After homeroom I'll show you around the school.” She said before taking my wrist and leading me to the chair next to where she had just been sitting.

“You're going to love our school. We have great sports teams, awesome teachers, and everyone gets along really well. We don't really have special cliques that we hang around in. I'll introduce you to everyone at lunch.” This girl didn't seem to breathe while she was rambling on,

“So Jasmine Jansen, can I call you J.J? Where did you move from? Tell me about your family? Do you like hiking? You should come with us this weekend. A whole group of us are going on a camping and hiking trip.” Before Sienna could say anything else, Miss Tucker interrupted her.

“Miss Potter, breathe! I think if you keep jabbering on without giving the poor girl a chance to speak, you'll scare her right out of Maine!”

Sienna blushed as the whole class giggled at her. “Sorry, I'm just excited to have a new friend.”

Uh oh, she said the F word, and that terrified me. Sienna was so nice to me already, but that's how friendships start. It's how they end that had me worried. The bell rang and I handed Sienna my schedule so she could show me where I had to go for each class.

After the tour, she showed me where to meet her for lunch. I spent the first half of my day worrying about lunchtime. I was sure that I'd be bombarded by questions and this time, there wouldn't be a teacher to interrupt before I had to answer. My classes went by quietly and quickly and before I knew it, I was walking into the lunchroom with Sienna.

“I'm going to introduce you to a couple of my closest friends. The four of us usually sit together and I'd like you to join us. This is Becky, Morgan, and Maxine. Morgan and Max are twins, but you can always tell them apart because Max has her eyebrow pierced. Girls, I want you to meet Jasmine.” Sienna smiled at me and we both sat down. Sienna repeated her questions, but this time she paused for me to answer.

“Do you only go by Jasmine, or can I call you J.J?”

“J.J is fine with me, or you can call me Jazz.” I said quietly.

“Okay J.J, where are you from?”
