Speech: "Change Starts From Us" (Mother Earth)

Good morning everyone! To start off my speech, I have a question to ask. What will you feel if you saw your mother crying? Guilty? Sympathy? Pain? Or happy, perhaps? Are you happy seeing your mother crying in pain, in sorrow?

Imagine this,  your mother and you as one of her children. Your mother gave you everything, loved you wholeheartedly. Her children appreciated it at first. But as they grew older, they changed. They wanted more from her. They were abusing her kindness and generosity. She had little more to give, but still they hurt her. Until, she became very weak.

According to Eross S. Ocampo, a representative of The Union Congress of the Philippines or TUCP, The Philippines is now suffering from degradation of the natural environment. Fifty major rivers are now polluted due to abuse and neglect. The Philippines is looming with garbage problems. Systematically cutting forests down, never stopped its destruction.

Our mother earth gave us everything. She gave us the river, but we polluted and defiled it. She gave us the trees, but we chopped it down. She gave us the sky but we blackened it with smoke from our never ceasing fires. She gave us the world, but we continue to destroy it. What have she done wrong to deserve all this? But I've come to realize, that we are the ones who will suffer the consequences of our careless actions.

Is there a solution for this disaster? Yes. Yes, there is. Learn to Reuse, reduce and recycle. I know it's too overused. Yes, people are already aware of this law. But still, it had minimal impact to our environment. Minimal. But what is really the effective solution to this problem? Change.

If you had a small trash. As small as a candy wrapper. Where do you throw it? Anywhere. If before we had that mindset of throwing it anywhere cause were too lazy to throw it in the trash bin, why not change that. Imagine what can you save if you throw that piece of candy wrapper in the proper way. Imagine how you could save our mother. Our mother earth. The effective solution is the reformation of your attitude and concerns in protecting our environment. Change from within you is the solution.

Do you love your mother earth? If yes, then how could we just stand here and watch her die slowly, as we kill her by our own careless and abusing actions? Have you forgotten your mother earth? If yes, then that is my purpose why I am here. To remind you. She is dying, and I know you could see it. But as she dies, we suffer. So save mother earth before it's too late. Save mother earth for the next generations. Let us make a stand, as one nation, one country and one environment. Change starts from us.
