the laughter won't last for long;
when glazed, defeated eyes
can't hold in drops of seething lava,
they will leave burns
forever engraved into your skin,
a constant reminder
of how i couldn't keep
the smile gracing on your lips,
so i bottle the times i catch
windows of sunshine
where your brown eyes,
color of sea-stained wood
crashing onto ragged stones
in a cloudy, misty night,
shone like an ingot of pure gold
under the gentle touch of light.
your happiness
blooms in the midst of noon,
scintillating like a polished ruby
and never dull;
i know it won't last for long
but i promise you,
it's what makes any other memory
nothing like this.
