A/N: Yes I know I had a little schedule planned for what one shots I'd be doing next (so sorry for however requested their Sombra one shot!). But if any of you have been following my conversations posted on my wall, you'll know that I wasn't doing too great for a while and I haven't had much motivation do anything because of it. However, today I got some inspiration from a story I've been reading on Webtoon called Castle Swimmer. I highly recommend you check it out. So until I get the motivation to write the one shots I had planned, please enjoy this one in the meantime.

(Also this will become an actual book eventually.)

"Captain! We're coming up on land! A small island up ahead, it could be our only chance to refill our resources before the storm tonight."
"Very well, set course for the island!"
My men rushed to their respective positions at my command while a stood watch towards the back of my ship. For once, we weren't on the run from some other low life pirates trying to steal the gold that I found first and rightfully had ownership over. The boys were definitely glad to be able to relax a bit, but we were starting to run a bit low on food and such and it would be a while before we got a chance to dock on proper land. So until then, we made do by stopping at small islands and gathering fruit, wood, etc.
It wasn't long before I too could see the island. It was about the size as all the others. Small, but capable of sheltering a few different species of animals and plentiful options of food. As we neared closer, I ordered my men to drop the anchor.
"Captain, I sent a party of three to do a quick scout of the land before we all set foot."
"Good, some men will stay aboard while the rest of us go to gather. They'll have time to gather some fish before we get back. So once-"
"Captain! You need to see this!" One of the men shouted up to me from the land above. I turned around and walked to the edge of the ship to look over. The three crew members were crowding around some lump on the sand. I couldn't see what from my position, so I made my way down to the shallow waters, walking onto the shore.
"What is it? It better be important." I growled as the three men backed away so I could see what they were gawking at. Once I could get a good look, I too was gawking. It was a woman, looking up at the men an I, seeming absolutely petrified. However, she wasn't a normal woman, she had what looked like the tail of a fish rather than legs.
"Please don't kill me! My scales aren't worth anything I promise you!" Her voice was shaky as I looked her over. She was gorgeous, deep (E/C) eyes, (H/L) (H/C) hair, beautiful clear skin, but she was injured. It was clear she was a mermaid, there was no other explanation. I had never seen one in person, they were nearly extinct. She had cuts over her arms, stomach, neck, and especially her fin. She must have gotten caught in a trap of some sort...
I slowly knelt down as she tried to frantically back away. "It's okay." I held my hands up to show I had no intentions on killing or harvesting her. "I'm not here to hurt you any further than you already are... what's your name?" I spoke softly, trying to calm her down a bit, the poor girl seemed terrified and in so much pain.
"(Y/N)..." She replied, hugging herself as she refused to make eye contact with me or my men. I sighed and ordered the guys to return to the ship. They were reluctant, but obeyed nevertheless.
"I'm Ashe, that's my ship back there, I didn't come to kill you and sell your tail or anything like that." The girl continued to stare at the sand, she was now staying quiet. I tried to get a bit closer, but when she froze up I stopped, I couldn't blame her for not trusting me. "Are you really a mermaid? I've never seen one in person." I wanted to make a small conversation with her, hoping she'd warm up to me a little. She gave a small nod and glanced up at me.
"I'm one of the last ones..." She mumbled, averting her gaze to look down at the deep cuts and blood that decorated her tail. I followed her eyes and frowned slightly.
"What happened to you?" (Y/N) hugged herself as she looked back to the sand.
"Poachers... they've been chasing me everywhere for weeks, trying to kill me for my tail to sell it. They don't realize that no one has a need for mermaid scales anymore since so many have been killed and theirs have already been sold and used..." She sighed softly and glanced back to me again. "They caught me in one of their traps and I got cut up while trying to get out. I couldn't get as far away as I would've liked to, but my fin hurts so much and I couldn't swim any further, I ended up just washing up here on this island..." I slowly moved a bit closer, She flinched slightly but didn't object. As I reached out a bit she tried to move away so I paused.
"May I?" I asked softly, the girl was hesitant at first but eventually nodded slowly. Looking over her fin, I reached out and gently felt over her scales. I felt around her wounds but stopped when she winced quietly. Continuing upwards, I looked over each cut. She shivered lightly as I lightly dragged my fingertips over the skin of her abdomen. I got a bit lost while looking her over, and it was only until I nearly touched her breast that I realized she didn't have anything to cover them...
I retreated my hand a bit with a dark blush covering my cheeks. "S-Sorry!" The girl was blushing a deep red as well, but she didn't say anything. I took that as my cue that I could examine the last of her wounds on her arms and neck. After looking over the cuts on her neck, I glanced up to lock eye contact with her, gently cupping her cheek and frowning. Since she let me look so closely, I had noticed that she not only had cuts, but also burns from the rope dragging against her skin. "You poor thing..."
(Y/N) frowned and seemed to melt into my touch on her cheek, her eyes starting to water and soon a tear falling from her eye. She was definitely hurt, and the way she reacted to my compassion made me think that she had never felt any affection from another being in her entire life. "Let me help you." I whispered. "I'll carry you aboard onto my ship and I can wrap your wounds, I'll kill those poachers and I'll set you free. I won't hurt you, I want you to feel better... Do you trust me?" She looked me in the eyes and she seemed to be searching to find if I was lying, when she found nothing she nodded slowly, carefully reaching her arms around me and pulling me into a gentle hug.
We sat in silent for a short bit, arms around each other until I heard her whisper into my ear, "Thank you..."

Bonus:

It had been almost a year since I had found (Y/N) washed up on the shore of an island, injured and broken. And now she was completely healthy and free. Each day she would visit. I always knew when she showed up because she would flick water up over the ship and specifically onto me with her fin to get my attention. She always had a gift, they ranged from sand dollars to pearls when she could find one. She told me it was her way of saying thank you.
On some days, she'd show up twice, once in the day to give me her gift, and once at night if she just wanted to see me again. Today was one of those days. She had found a pearl in a clam and had given to me as her daily thank you. Now it was later, the moon and stars were out, I was sitting on one of the wooden platforms down close to the water were my men sat to fish, and (Y/N) had get arms and head resting in my lap. Even though she had gotten my clothes wet with the salt water she was covered in, I didn't mind. I had lost track of how long we hand been talking for at this point, it was mindless chatter that meant nothing, yet we both always seemed to get lost in our conversations. However, I could tell it was coming to an end as (Y/N) let out a yawn, looking up at me with a bright smile. "I have a second gift for you today!" She exclaimed proudly.
"First of all, you really don't have to bring me little things every single day, and secondly, you don't need to be giving me so many!" I chuckled at the light blush that dusted her cheeks.
"You saved my life, I must repay you and this is the only way I can. Besides are you sure you want to pass this one up?" She giggled as I sighed with a grin.
"What is it?" (Y/N) wasted no time in responding to my question, pulling herself up to be eye level with me before pressing her lips against mine. My eyes widened in surprise, but it soon melted away as I grabbed ahold of her waist, and gladly returned the kiss that I had been waiting so long to receive from her.
