Dylan just stood there and watched as the three figures started to fight. The one girl against the two guys, it seemed so unequal, but then they started to fight and he realised that she was the stronger fighter. He watched as the girl moved through their attacks almost gracefully, and quickly. He had never seen something as beautiful as her before in his life. He watched her as she flicked a ball of silver fire at one, touched both boys on the shoulder and paralyse them so that only their heads could move. Then her head had lifted and she had looked at him with beautiful, surprised brown eyes, and he saw that one of her eyes had a silver mark over it, then she had hastily flicked her wrist at the boys and they became unfrozen.

"Hello, may we help you?" she asked with an amused expression on her face.

"Huh? Oh! Um, yeah! Is this the Shadow institute?" Dylan asked shakily.

"Yes", the shorter one of the boys answered, "Are you the new kid?"

"Daemon, of course he's the new kid!" the girl scolded him. "You must be Dylan Aries, we were waiting for you, but we decided to play around a bit. I'm sorry for all the informalness. My name is Jayde Scorpio." Dylan stared at her as she talked, her voice filling his head like music. Damn it! Why did I just think that? Dylan asked himself angrily.

"My name is Wayland Taurus and this is Daemon Leo, we'll be showing you around the institute and your dorm room."  The taller boy said, Dylan noticed that through the burned hole in his shirt, he had a silver mark on his right shoulder.

"Oh, okay." Dylan mumbled, still staring at Jayde with a shocked expression.

"Did you see us fighting just now?" She asked smiling.

"Yeah, um... that was... just ...whoa." Dylan stuttered. Great, impress the girl by stuttering at her he thought sarcastically.

"It's okay, it takes sometime to get used to seeing it, and then actually doing it, but you can." Daemon assured him.

"Okay, right, so if you two are showing me around the institute then what's she doing here?" Dylan asked confused. Then the air turned cold and Daemon, looked at Jayde like she was going to explode. He didn't even know that he had taken a step back when she just shook her head and said "Don't worry yourself Aries. I was just leaving." With that she turned around and sprinted towards the building they called the institute, but before she even reached the steps she turned into a silver mist that just flew up to the seventh floor. He didn't even know what he did wrong, but he must've upset her.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry. What did I do?" Dylan asked, helplessly searching for an answer to Jayde's sudden anger.

"We might as well tell him, he's probably going to be here a long time." Daemon said to Wayland.

"Okay, which elder did you meet already?" Wayland asked.

"Elder?"

"Who told you that you could come to the Darke's institute?" Daemon added helpfully.

"Oh, she said her name was Libra."

"Oh! No wonder she came down yesterday!" Wayland whispered to himself, and then told Dylan, "Well Libra told Jay to meet you this morning, but she didn't give any explanation as to why she should meet you."

"And since Jay is the best Shadow, she normally knows what's going on. She doesn't like not knowing the reason why, I guess it makes her feel a bit vulnerable." Daemon continued. "Don't worry; she's just a bit touchy on that subject."

"But what did I do to make her mad? And how did the temperature change so fast? Was that her too?" Dylan asked wildly.

"Dude, don't worry about it, just try not to get on her bad side, 'cause she is the Darke's best Shadow. She can do stuff that even we can't do, but we're the oldest students here."

"You saw the way she kicked our butts just now, my best advice is to give her room to get to know you."

"Yeah, fine, but still, could you tell her I didn't mean anything by it?"

"She's probably listening right now, seriously, don't worry. She doesn't like things that she can't understand." Daemon reassured Dylan again.

All of a sudden Wayland and Daemon winced at the same time, and Dylan could just hear the faint sound of laughing.

"Now you've done it Daemon, I can hear her from here!" Wayland cursed, "You show Dylan around and I'll go find Jay. I'm probably the only one she would talk to."

With that he swiftly turned around and ran into the institute, leaving Dylan with Daemon.

"Let's get inside then, so I can show you around." Daemon suggested.

"Okay." Dylan agreed, picking up his suitcase. "Oh, by the way, does Jayde um...like anyone here?"

"No, not unless you count herself. Why do you ask?" Daemon inquired with a sly smile.

"No! I was just wondering! I don't like her or anything! I don't even know her, and she hates me!" Dylan blurted.

"It's okay, she does look hot, but that's when she hasn't paralysed you so that you can only move your head. I'm not going to tell anyone either, but I can't promise that no one will find out if you shout it out loud again. PS: I sort of like her too."

"Oh, damn it!" Dylan cursed as they entered the institute.

"No hard feelings dude. Now come on, you have a training lesson with Tarius this afternoon, so we only have four hours to give you a tour of the school, get you lunch, and show you your dorm room. Do you have any sports clothes?" Daemon asked, going up the stairs on their left.

"We need sports clothes?"

"Well, not really, but you don't have a uniform, so you'll probably have to go to Aquarius later to get some."

"So then what am I supposed to wear to the training session now?"

"You'll have to make do with jeans and a T-shirt." Dylan grimaced, never in his life had he been so unprepared.

"Here's your dorm room then. I suppose it's like a hotel room. I'm going to go to the common room for lunch, fourth floor if your interested, but you will probably want to settle in first. Be on the second floor by two 'clock, that's when the session starts. This room is on the sixth floor, my room is downstairs at the end of the hall, and you should probably not go upstairs because Jay's dorm room is up there, the Elder's rooms are up there too and no one bothers the Elders. Any questions?" Daemon asked.

"No, but thanks." Dylan said.

"Oh, by the way, where is your sign?" Daemon said with thoughtfulness.

"What do you mean?" Dylan asked, confused.

"Well you find out that you are a Shadow when you get a mark like a star-sign. Mine's sort of over my heart, so I'm not about to show you." Daemon laughed.

"Oh, you mean this?" Dylan said sticking his arm out exposing the inside of his right wrist. He hadn't known how he had gotten that mark, but one day he had been raising his hand to answer a question in class...

"Well, see ya then." Daemon said and was gone.

Dylan just stood there his brain overwhelmed with so much information, but mostly wondering about Jayde. Not knowing what to do he sank into the armchair in the corner, fell asleep and dreamed of Jayde laughing as her long hair bounced in the sunlight, her silver sign shining, her warm embrace, of flying like the silver mist that she had turned into. When he woke up it was one fifty. Swearing, he got up threw some jeans and a t-shirt on and rushed downstairs to the sports hall arriving just as Jayde misted in through the door.
