21: Too Sweet Too Bite

Start from the beginning

"What are you going to do in your condition," he smirked, with eyebrows high. "Support," I spat, but he tightened his grip as I tried to walk around him. "From a distance. I'll go and check on shit, you just stay here," he offered. "But Kinzy...," I started only to get interrupted. "Kinzy and you, are both pregnant. Y'all don't need to be around anything that might pop off in y'all condition," he tried to reason.

"So what? You want me to sit here with my feet propped up and wait for the bad news," I asked, exasperated. "It won't be any bad news if I'm going. Just for a minute stop being stubborn and  do what I'm telling you. It's not to hurt you aight, it's for your protection," Nikko said sitting me down on my new bed. For a moment, Nikko seemed to be someone totally different. He seemed to care. Without thinking I reached up and hugged him around his neck. "Thank you for helping me. It means a lot," I said into his ear. The moment didn't last long before he pulled back. "Just remember you're living for someone else," he began, "I'll be back," he said taping my chin gently. I watched Nikko's retreating back, as my hopes diminished, when it hit me he was only worried about our baby. Then a smile crossed my face. Well, at least for the next nine months, it'll be this side of Nikko, but how could I not fall for him when he acted like this?

That's when it hit me, within these next few months I had to make Nikko feel what I feel. Even though I don't know what it is I feel I had to make him see that I wasn't the girl he'd met on those bad first terms. I'd give it my all to make Nikko see the real me and hope he fell in love with me like I'd begun to fall for him. It was the least I could do for the child growing inside of me. I just hope i wasn't thinking too irrationally here. Just for once though, I'd like a happy ending.

Kinzy

We pulled up to Mama Janice's house and she was throwing James' stuff out and onto the lawn, and here I thought that was something only women did to their men. For a mother to be doing this to her son though, meant he'd broken the camel's back. I jumped out the car as soon as Jyrell pulled up and ran up the porch steps, stomping on every article of clothing I could."Mama, what's going on," I asked confused running into the house. I stopped in my foot steps when almost bumping into a tall, brown man who reminded me of Idris Elba. He looked me over and smiled. "I didn't know you had a sister, James," he smiles before being bumped by an angry Mama Janice on her way out with another load of clothes. James chuckles, " She's the in law, kind of," he continues drinking from a bottle of Hennessy. "James, you snake," I growled looking around at the men walking out with bags and briefcases. James must have been having a business meeting here at the house his brother pays for, and where his children stay many nights.

"Watch it shawty. I'm not in the mood," he said looking up to glare at the doorway. There stood Nikko and James, trying to assess the situation but their eyes fall quickly on the tall brown man. "Chresanto,"  they utter in unison. "Well this is a surprise," Chresanto smiles brightly, but it isn't warm. "James works for you," Nikko asks? "He does," Chresanto nods. Just then before the conversation could pick up, Jyrell throws his hands up and gets their attention. "No offense to anyone but y'all got to get the fuck up out of here. This shit is crazy I know but we're going to have to deal with it later. Y'all got to go," Jyrell said looking at Chresanto and pointing to the door. "Wait, I thought you lived here," Chresanto chuckled, looking back at James. "Nope," James shrugged, sipping on his drink. "You damn right your ass don't live here no more! You get your shit off my lawn and get the hell out! How dare you bring drugs and these damn hustlers into my house," Miss Janice yelled getting in James' face. "If I was a man I'd stump you into the mud," she barked, smacking him across his face.
