26: The Good With The Bad

Two weeks later

             Finally, I'd gotten a call from the hospital saying Brat had woke up from her coma. Turns out Brat didn't have any family for them to call so it was up to me. Not to mention since it was my brother who'd shot her, I felt somewhat guilty for her hospitalization so I'd go read to her every few days.When I got to the room, Brat was sitting up drinking some apple juice and looking at the tv. "Hey," I said lowly as I walked in. She glances up and smiled weakly. "Hi," she said in the same tone. "How are you feeling," I asked, trying to place a smile on my face for her sake. She was probably already down in the dumps, the last thing she needed was me looking all sad for her. "Well, my entire body aches, and the doctors said I nearly died from blood loss. They said I've been unconscious for weeks now," she asked, in a questionable tone? "Yeah, close to a month, I was begining to wonder if you'd ever get up myself," I joked sitting by her bed. "Wow that long huh," she spoke as if her mind began to wander off. "Yeah I was surprised that you didn't have any family or friends on your call log. All they were able to find were unknown numbers and mine. Since you were in the car with me, I was able to get information from hospital staff. I thought you told me once though, that you still had a living mother," I asked, trying to Make conversation before visiting hours ended in forty minutes, and I went to meet Nikko at my place.   

          In my stomach butterflies began to flutter just from the thought of him. I've learned now feeling this way about Nikko was inevitable. Love was something that took over the heart before the mind even knew what was going on. One day I could hate him for saying something hurtful, but the next I would love him for his sarcasm, his don't-mess-with-me attitude, and his over-protectiveness. He was so strong for everyone else, even when he was worn out. Nikko was just good like that, and just from the thought of him making an appearance at my place, I was gushing. I guess this one-sided love affair would be working like this for a while.

        "I do. More or less. I dont even know where she stays anymore or if she's okay," Brat spoke sadly. I bite my bottom lip not knowing what to say. No apology would fix anything, but I took her hand and squeezed it, "I hope things between your family and you get better," I smiled sympathetically. She nodded feverishly and wiped her eyes with her free hand. "I'm sure they would be if only I wouldn't have been so young and dumb," she chuckled. I wondered what she meant but thought about all the different stories in my circle of friends, and knew life could throw its fair share of curve balls. " Things usually work out in the end, no matter how bad they seem sometimes," I try to encourage her. "Yeah, maybe," she shrugged before starring at the tv. After that we ended up watching some black and white soap on the tv until it was time for me to leave. "Call me if you need anything," I spoke before heading out of her room . i heard her reply a thanks as I walked out of the room.

         Even though I felt bad for Brat, I felt my feet moving at a fastening pace as I hurried out of the hospital, it had nothing to do with her of course, but I was on a time clock today. Nikko and I actually were going to plan the next doctors appointment and start looking for baby stuff. Bottles, strollers, and other stuff like that. I thought it was a bit early but Nikko insisted, but after talking to Kinzy it would've been best to wait until after the baby shower. My guests however would have been strippers and college students on a budget so all the expensive necessities and well thought out baby things were, as Nikko said, best to buy as soon as possible. I just couldn't believe we were about to sit down and have our fast discussion about the little one on the way. Unnecessary to say but i was excited about taking another big step with Nikko.
