"Hey, Y/N, how did you say that portal thing showed up?" Steven asked.
They had all stayed the night, and the next morning, after making another (makeshift) together breakfast, they had an anxious aura about them. You and Amethyst were sitting in beanbag chairs, Steven was sitting on the floor next to you, Pearl was sat neatly in a wooden chair, and Garnet sat on top of a pillow on the floor.
"I mean, I don't really know, it kinda just showed up when I was feeling particularly homesick." You replied. "I wanted to be able to see my friends again, I saw a light in the corner of my eye, and the thing was there."
"Why do you ask?" You questioned, slightly concerned.
"I mean..." Steven thought for a moment about what he was going to say. "The girls tend to be anxious about things, and they want to make sure that Earth - our Earth - stays safe. Plus, Connie and I had made plans to hang out this afternoon, and..." he hung his head and stared at the floor.
You smiled sadly. "Hey," you touched his shoulder in reassurance, "It's okay. I totally understand you wanting to go home. Besides, I kind of owe you that much."
"I kind of like it here, though. It's so different and interesting." Steven said.
"I don't know about that...but I guess after being used to the stuff in your world, my world is pretty weird." You replied.
"To be honest, I also find it fascinating." Pearl joined in. "I just happened to do some research about-"
"Hold up, you didn't look up stuff about yourselves, right?!" You interrupted.
"Uh, no...why?" Pearl replied awkwardly.
"...The internet...can be weird....That's all I'm gonna say. Anyway, what about your research?"
"I found some interesting things about your world, your universe, in fact." Pearl began. "Not only did gems not invade Earth, they didn't invade anywhere; they don't exist in this universe to your knowledge. And on this earth, I learned that there is a country called 'Russia' where the Tunguska Sea is supposed to be, and most of the continents are different shapes as well."
"Pearl, you're such a nerd." Amethyst laughed.
"I don't think I absorbed any of that." Steven chuckled. But then, he was back to a melancholy demeanor. "I like it here, but...I also like home, y'know?"
"Yeah." You said. "It be like that sometimes." You all laughed slightly.
At that moment, there was a familiar white light in the corner of your eye. It was time to say goodbye.
"We've enjoyed every second with you, Y/N." Garnet said, walking up to you and placing her hand on your shoulder. "I see a bright future for you. But I'm afraid that future doesn't involve us - at least, it doesn't include us being with you. But we'll be in your memories, as well as on the TV screen." She chuckled slightly with the last few words.
"We'll miss ya, dude." Amethyst said, punching your shoulder.
"It was a lot of fun!" Pearl smiled, placing her hands together in an excitable manner.
"I won't forget about you, Y/N." Steven said, eyes noticeably misty. "You want me to mention you in the show at some point?" He joked, trying to lighten the mood.
"That sounds pretty cool, but I think it'd be best if you didn't." You replied.
"Okay, just making sure." He smiled.
They all insisted on a group hug, and you couldn't say no. After that, they all stepped into the portal, with Steven saying one last minute goodbye.
"We'll see you soon, I guess. Or, you'll see us soon...? ...You know what I meant. Anyway, byyeee!" He quickly waved as the portal closed.
You plopped down in your beanbag chair once again, feeling a mixture of bittersweet and lethargic. You were kind of depressed at that point, still processing everything that happened. You were unfocused for the rest of the day and didn't sleep all that well that night.
The next morning, you checked your phone, half asleep, when you got a YouTube notification for a reccomended video. You were going to instinctively ignore it when you caught a glimpse of the title.
"Steven Universe Movie Trailer Released"
You smiled. "I guess I'll be seeing them a bit sooner than I thought..."
A/N
And that's the end of that! I started this as an amateur writer and I finished it later than I should have while I'm honestly still an amateur. Sorry this story kind of sucks, this was pretty much just for fun.
Also, sorry I took so long to write this, I just kind of lost motivation to do it after SU wasn't really a huge hyperfixation for me anymore. But I got my sh*t together and did it!
I hope it is adequate and that you were able to get some enjoyment out of it.
Thanks for reading! <3
