Chapter Twenty-Three

Start from the beginning

His monolid eyes scanned the group. Then, he cleared his throat. Everyone, included Dara, went silent and looked up at him. It was bizarre, like when you call a dog.

"We can begin now, the moon is at it's fullest." Ivelyn and I met gazes. I wonder what she thought of him. "Thana, would you like to start with your sacrifice?" He asked the female closest to him. She had strange eyes and her hair was half blonde on one side and black on the other. She was dangerous pale, like Vayne. Slowly, she stood up.

That's when I noticed she was holding something that was wrapped up in a dark cloth. She looked down at it eagerly.

"Yes, I would love to, Trevor." She uncovered what she was holding: a goat and it didn't look like it was alive. "I brought a goat. The goat represents the symbol of the Devil. Of course, me being the vessel of Lucifer, I thought it was fitting." Oh, so this was the girl who thought she could talk to the Devil. I wanted to roll my eyes, but I couldn't take them off her even for a second.

There was something truly sinister about her.

I did see Dara roll her eyes. Apparently, I wasn't the only one that thought Thana was full of it.

"Wouldn't you be the mouthpiece of the Devil." Everyone stared at Dara. "I mean, if you were the vessel, wouldn't that mean the Devil was in you? Instead, you say you speak to him." Dara looked stoned, especially the way she leaned against Vayne for support.

Thana's dark eyes narrowed in on my sister. They obviously didn't like each other.

"Did you read that in one of your Witch books?" She snapped. Trevor appeared nervous, fidgeting with her bracelet.

"Ladies, we can discuss the technicalities of Thana's abilities later. First, we really need to move along." Trevor attempted at taking back control. It only partially worked. Thana grabbed a knife, cut the goats neck open and poured the blood into the altar, which was in the center of the pentagrams. Blood splattered on everyone, but Dara and Thana's eyes never parted.

Okay, that's intense.

"Perfect, who's next?" Trevor asked, urging for volunteers.

"I'll go," of course, this was Dara. She stood up, pulling Vayne up with her. He looked bored. "We brought cats," I winced as she revealed two Tom Cats. How could Dara do this? The worst part was that these cats were still alive. I couldn't watch as Dara and Vayne sacrifices them. "You know, they're a symbol of Witches." Was she doing this to stick it to our family? Everything they were doing seemed to was against Witches.

The next person to volunteer was a guy that looked around my age. He had dark hair, that matched his skin. He stood up and sacrificed a sheep. He seemed to really enjoy killing it too. I watched from behind my fingers. It was like the worst scary movie you could imagine. This guy adored Trevor like he thought he was some kind of God.

"Cessair, why don't you go next?" Thana volunteered a girl with blue hair. She was wearing all black and was covered in piercings. She stood up the second her name was called. Obviously, she was Team-Thana.

"Of course, Thana." She knelt down, pulling a plastic bag out of her purse. It looked like a ferret, but I wasn't totally sure. Again, I couldn't watch as she sacrificed it. "This was Tony and he had been my ferret for eight years." How were these teenagers sacrificing their pets? I felt beyond nauseous. I think Ivelyn sensed that because she appeared next to me and put her hand over my mouth.

Her eyes told me to get a grip.

She was right. I couldn't expose us like this. If they enjoyed killing animals this much, what would they do to Ivelyn and me? I shivered thinking about it. Ivelyn removed her hand but stayed next to me. Judging by the goosebumps on Ivelyn's arms, she was freaked out too.
