-Authors note: I'm continuing this story almost a year later and my writing style has changed over that time, I apologise if my old writing style is confusing. I will at some point be rewriting the beginning chapters to match the rest of my story. Thanks:)-
I felt my heart skip a beat as a sudden low growl sounded throughout the trees that masked us.
"What was that?!" Damian questioned, jolting to his feet.
"Tom!" I spun to look at Tom who stared blankly back to me. "I thought you were supposed to be checkin' the area. Now, what is that I hear?" I asked.
"Can't be certain Taylor, but we have reason to believe it is some sort of large predator, what do we do?" Tom replied.
"I would rather not become face to face with a beastly predator. Return to camp, Tom lend Damion a shoulder will ya," I instructed leading the way back to camp, swiftly and quietly in hopes not to alert the lurking beast.
"Damion!" Luca declared rushing over as we returned to the camp.
"Hey bud, sorry for worryin' you," Damion smiled wrapping his free arm around Luca.
"Captin. We aren' alone on this island, there are beasts lurking in the shadows," I explained.
"In that case, we take sleep shifts," The Captin instructed, I gave a nod, returning to my seat. I peered around the crew who sat grumbling about hunger as well as other nonsense topics. After finally becoming fed up with the grumbling I cleared my throat.
"Would ya quit grumblin' and start cookin'," I fired at them, without any moments hesitation they rushed over to the rations and began gathering ingredients to cook. I sat quietly watching them as Lisa constantly intruded in the cooking, tinkering with the food to make sure it was perfect. I rolled my eyes as Lisa began evening the rations to the fraction of a gram between each person. "Randall, Fetch me that flask," I instructed the scrawny kid who hastily collected me the flask. The flasks contents of water flowed down my throat, killing off the scratches I had accumulated from helping the Captin today. I began digging into the food that was as treacherous as always but it at least filled the black hole that cackled in my stomach.
With that, the scheduled sleeping began. I took first shift and sat by the warmth of the fire, the crews light snores drifted off with the wind which whispered stories of what will become of us. Even if we get off this island alive, our ship is gone and there's only 13 of us left of the original 40 member crew. What will become of us is unknown.
