"I feel fine, as fit as a fiddle. Maybe I just have a different colour code to everyone else."
He laughed it off but L didn't find it funny, there was something else going on with him. She didn't know what it could be but she planned to keep a closer eye on him.
They headed down to get breakfast and the talk soon turned to L's current situation. She decided to ask for their opinions on what she should tell the Council- and when.
"It's your choice, but my advice would be to tell them. You may not trust them all but you are an asset now. So if there are any more traitors around, all they will know is that you have your full powers and that'll be bad news for them." Mr Worcester emphasised his words with a wave of his fork, despite already finishing his food.
"But, Peter, she can't trust that someone won't try to take her again more forcefully because of this new development. I don't care whether you tell them or not, L, I just want you to be safe."
Mrs Worcester was halfway through eating her breakfast and appeared to have mostly lost interest in it. L listened to everything and they both made good points, which she told them while she nibbled on her last slice of toast.
"I think you should wait until you hear what the new security measures are and then decide." Robbie chimed in, helping himself to seconds.
L smiled, "I could do that, but how can I trust that the security measures work?"
Robbie pointed his fork at her, "Get them to test it on you, they won't be expecting it so they won't be able to tamper with it first."
L's brow raised, "That's a really good idea, thanks." Robbie shrugged it off but he was smiling between mouthfuls of his food. "I'll go to them later and see what happens, the security measures will decide whether I tell them."
The Worcesters seemed to like that idea and they shared some lighter conversation about Christmas while they finished with breakfast. They went their separate ways after that, Robbie was made to help his mum with the dishes; L had a feeling she was going to have a word with him about his strange behaviour. A subject that was still lingering in the back of L's mind on her way upstairs to her room.
She had already unpacked her bag and was now staring at the flute that lay on the windowsill. A thought crossed her mind and she picked it up, perusing her storage pile for possible flute tutorials. She found an interesting one from an old Elf songbook. She didn't know how well it would work but she gave it a go.
L read through the information on how to do it and found a few images on finger placements and then gave it a try. At first, the noises sounded painful and L wanted to cover her ears, but after another try, she managed a tune. It was melodious and beautiful. L pulled the flute away in surprise. She never thought she'd be able to make music like that.
She laughed to herself and tried another, which came easily to her now and L was soon playing them without checking the songbook. She put the flute down after one more song. It would definitely become one of her new favourite hobbies. It was something she couldn't have imagined liking before and she was starting to realise how much she had changed since finding out she was a Keeper.
L wanted to try out more things but the information on the Council was calling out to be read and she did want to know more about each of them before meeting up. She hoped it would help her trust some of them a little more. Their involvement with her life and especially her training wouldn't work otherwise.
She sat comfortably on her bed and delved in. Picking each member one by one and finding a few bits of information on each of them. There wasn't much on them personally but enough about their species' to know their traits and some telltale signs to look out for. Once she was finished with her reading she went downstairs for some lunch. Four hours had passed without her realising and the Worcesters were spread out around the house.
