Robbie smiled in agreement at his dad but L got the feeling he was still disappointed.
Mrs Worcester changed the subject hastily to discuss the house- it was ready to move back into as soon as L was.
"And just in time for Christmas, too," Mrs Worcester exclaimed delightedly.
L had completely forgotten it was nearly Christmas. She didn't even know what day it was let alone the date. However, she was ready to get back to the house. She wouldn't say so but she'd kind of had enough of Edra's house. She didn't hold Edra's actions against her, she was strangely grateful, but she was sick of ending up in that bed and being told where she could or couldn't go.
She had a lot to think about and being cooped up didn't help. She had to decide when she would tell the Council about her new development. She wouldn't be able to just tell the ones she liked, they all needed to know. L had all of their information loaded into her brain now anyway. She made a mental note to access it later when she was alone- before she made her choice.
For now, she focused on the plans for getting back to the house, and what would happen next would have to wait. Edra came in after a while to check on L, and the Worcesters excused themselves from the room.
Her appearance had changed again; her hair was long, wavy and the colour of honey. She looked a little old but still not an elderly lady, and she was wearing black dungarees over a white t-shirt. L felt a flood of information spring forth about Edra and she had to push it away. There was a lot of it. She stored it for later while she watched Edra. L was surprised to see how happy Edra was when she walked to the side of the bed.
"I heard that the spell worked and you're a fully fledged Keeper now? Just as your parents always wanted you to be."
L's surprise only increased when she came to the same realisation. Technically they had set this up to happen at some point in her life, Edra had just changed the mechanics of how.
"I suppose that's true, although Bryce says I need practice in knowing which parts apply and which don't."
Edra pursed her lips and she placed her hands on the back of the chair.
"Bryce says a lot of things... I need another chat with him." But before L could ask what she meant, she held up a hand. "Never mind. I assume there's a lot of information about me trying to make its way forth right now. There are things I discussed with your parents, things I showed them, and other things you may find out through other species's knowledge of me. The former is personal to me and my kind, for your eyes only. Are we clear?" Her voice became stern for a moment and L nodded earnestly.
"Of course, I'm sure there will be a lot of requests like that from other species too. I wouldn't dream of sharing your secrets with anyone else, especially without your permission."
L was shocked at her own response, it didn't sound like her and yet she had meant what she said.
Edra seemed satisfied, she smiled brightly and tapped the bed.
"Good, now that we've gotten that out of the way, we need to get you ready to move first thing in the morning. I've added a few personal security measures of my own to your house now. No Demon will break its way in this time."
Edra nodded as though that was a certainty. She made sure L was settled and left her to sleep, not that it was going to happen, she had slept enough over the last few days. L lay still and tried to sift through the mountains of information she kept receiving. Edra's pile lay in one corner of her mind like homework that needed to be handed in.
The Council's information lay in another, looming like a late library book. L ignored both piles for the time being and tried for something she needed a lot sooner. Dwarf knowledge was vast but she managed to pick out what she wanted after an hour or so of trying. She found a few possibilities on where Folen might be.
